UFO Sighting

The UFO Friends' Favourite is coming along very slowly. I was able to get Row 1 to 4 sewed into quadrants this past week. I'm happy with that progress.

Row 5 and 6 are progressing well too. Many centres were audition for the next rows. I believe there's a certain Mr. Cat who came by and "realigned" the last rows. 

I love when I have a print in more than one colourways. Sometimes, I love the print more in one colour than the other and sometimes, I love the print in either colours. I know the seashells print is not the same but close enough for a photo. 😉



I got to play with RED too . . . a little bit. I found this plastic bags, gifted a while back. It was fun going through these "new to me" prints.

A bag in a bag. Goodies! 

Reds, salmon, dark dusty rose, watermelon, maroon, school brick, etc. 

The smaller bag had reds, greens and browns strips as seen here. I don't know why they were cut at a different length like that. Yes, I will find a way to use them regardless, lol. 

Some (1.5 X 2.5" rectangles) were already put to good use and were turned into a 18 Bricks block. 

March 7th was the Artisanat's game night. I bought some tickets and then told the boys they were coming along, lol. We had a fun evening playing social games and socializing with REAL people. The cherry on top is that I won 2 prizes. One is a gift card to a popular restaurant in my "hometown" and the other one is this gorgeous, handmade, table topper with placemats and napkins.

Great presentation. 

The green plaid fabric is also used for the backing on these and the table topper. 

Sylvie, the maker of this wonderful gift, turned the napkins into cute little butterflies. She even tied tiny knots at the end of the ribbons to make it look like antennas. I hope you can see it on your monitor. It's so CUTE!!! Sylvie is an amazing crafter and I'm so happy I won her creation. 

Yes, you are right, I don't want to undo the little butterflies, lol. 

Please ignore the burnt stains on the table. (The table is not dirty, lol) I put a butterfly on the bigger stain but the smaller ones show. :^(  ANYWHO!!! 

On Friday the 13th, we got rain, sleet and snow. Scary combination!

Needless to say, after getting the groceries done, today will turned into a sew day. Maybe a baking day too. We'll see.

Here Comes Orange!

(Sorry for another long post. My last one. I promise.)

What a fun and busy week this was. Am I Following My Weekly Resolution? Not at all, lol. And why is that? Too much work! I was mostly alone at work this week as Olivia had other priorities in her life to deal with. So, I got home too tired to do much. 

But! I did attend our final reunion of Artisanat for the year 24-25 on Tuesday. The theme was Old McDonald's Farm. 

I found a new friend. It was so soft that I almost trade it for Raven. Nnnnaaahhh! Lol. (If you enlarge the photo you will see that I was the scarecrow made out of straw. Like drinking straw. No, I'm not drunk, just a little crazy on one side.) 

Of course, I came home with a bunch of scrap bags. 

During the week someone came to my house to deliver more boxes from her old aunt. 

Lots of not-quilt-worthy fabric. They are strips of thick fabric for ...  cut from mattresses? blinds?

I don't know what but I have a whole box of it. 

And a box of SHIBs (Squirrel Hiding in Boxes, Bags) 

These are garment SHIBs. The red ones are wool and the strips are jersey. I see relaxed-fit midi summer dresses in those. Oh, I wish I had more time on my hands. 

I don't know how to knit but right now I wish I did. 

31 magazines of knitting patterns and home craft of all kinds and for everyone in the family. Dated from 1920 to 1937. 

16 magazines with crochet patterns. The oldest one is 1912! So precious. 

The aunt had a notebook forgotten with the magazines. I remember those kind of notebook with a paper cover of a Holy picture (as if Jesus was that white) and the time table on the back. But I never seen one with this serious security tips about electricity. It must had been when the electricity was a new thing. Imagine that! Electricity is a new thing! and people did not know not to touch it. Wow!  

The aunt also did Petit Point needlework. She finished this one. Some are halfway done. 

Two frames came with the tapestries. 
I did do some Petit Point a long time ago. I want to start doing it again now. 

But then! 

BUT then!! 

I said to a few of you already that I was thinking of recruiting because of the amount of fabric that comes into my place every week. Well, I did AND they responded. 

It went like this. Brought my idea to the president of Artisanat. The committee agreed to my idea. So, I exposed my idea to the group during our last reunion, that maybe some people would like to sew but don't have the room for a lot of fabric. I would make kits for baby quilts, nothing too big, and at the reunion, they can take one or two kits home and assemble them at their own speed. The instruction, picture and fabric would all be in the kit. 

10 people signed up. TEN!! I'm floored. I'm excited and scared at the same time. Okay, since we don't meet until September, I will try and kit as many quilts as I can during the summer. I got one pattern done, with 20 more patterns to go. I'll make several kits of the same pattern. All the ladies who signed up already know how to make quilts. FANtastic!! 

But did I sew? 

Yes! Just a wee bit. 

All 10 blocks for April Fool were done but I couldn't resist this one. So 11 green ones. 

Same for Flying Home blocks. Three blocks is usually what I do each month but ... 

this green-ish teal (that looks more blue against the green) just twisted my arm. So, one more for the month. 

Itsy bitsy sewing done. 

Only one green crumb block and 9-Patch, of course. There was a little bit of that gorgeous print in the new bags and I just had to get rid of that SHIB! One orange 9-Patch and the brown one was another SHIB. I did way more Rail Fence then those but it will be more fun to show them once they are assembled. Hopefully next week I'll have a few blocks to present to you. 

I thought the pile of green scraps wasn't diminishing much when I realized ... 

it's not fabric. It's Raven! He seems to like green. I caught him a few times sleeping there but he never did that with the other colours. Funny cat.

Yep, that's all. I believe a little chipmunk ate the seeds. All that's growing are a few cucumbers. No flowers. I'll plant more seeds this weekend AND store the pots elsewhere. Sigh!

Three regular-sized Ziploc bags plus a tall plastic bag and the scrap basket overflowing. I did not moved forward with this one, lol. I was looking for that pear and apple fabric when sewing the Flying Home blocks. It never showed up in time. Whatever, it will be used in an I Spy quilt. 

June is my birth month and Angela called my favourite colour: Orange. I'm so happy! 

This is all I have to play with. :^(  There might be more in the gifted bags but I'm not very hopeful as my friends are not "Orange" people. Haha.

Where Was I? (photo heavy)

At our annual Craft Show/Bake Sale!

This is a Mosaic Crochet blanket. It's a technique I would love to learn. She might give a course next year. 

Another different technique. It's a kind of a manual weaving. The blanket fabric is bought and you have to weave the design. Just gorgeous! 

Someone had fun dressing up dolls in crochet dresses. 

Some of you might have done a Snow Days quilt. (I think that's the name. Let me know if I'm wrong please.) Almost all of us had seen one or two. I've seen many in blue, beige and red. It's the first one I see in black. Wow! It was awesome. 

Lise even extended the embroidery in the border. SO gorgeous! 

I baked two French Silk Pie for the bake sale. Now, the boys are asking for their share. I'll make one more this weekend. :^D

Each seller has to give a little something to add to the basket for the door prize. 

My son won! 

So many wonderful things in there; there were many sellers this year. 

I even have my own little Never-Die cactus. Whoop Whoop! 

The Red sewing didn't go as planned but then again, that's the story of my life! 

One lonely Stained Glass got assembled but it's not even finished. 

One more April Fool in red (the 5 others are waiting by the sewing machine), and one in scrap galore. 

In my last post, I mentioned being hesitant to use multi-coloured print in my RSC blocks. I got a few comments from people saying they feel the same way. It got my brain churning. As coincidence always happens this way, Cynthia at Quilting from More Fun than Housework, is also trying to use up the prints from her stash. She started a Snowball quilt with prints. See it here. She also had a quilt sent to her with giant geese. It's a great quilt. See that one on this post.

I commented that I love to do 9-Patch with prints because I can use 2 prints. The white fabrics are usually scarce around here. 

I want to make another Framed 9-Patch quilt. Unfortunately, I have miscalculated this one and don't have enough to frame it. :^(  I want to use the "dark" neutral in this one. We'll see how it goes. 

I am also doing April Fool with prints. (see photo two pictures up) I even used the instruction section from a panel. Heck! why not? Other ways to use up the prints are in the centre of stars, Puss In the Corner or a simple Barn Raising style with 5" squares or even bigger. We are only limited by our own imagination on this one. So, let's use those prints, ladies. 😉

The end of April brought a photo session with the Red Scraps. 

At the beginning of the month and ... 

the end of April. My friends are very generous people. Lol. 

Now, on to green. Do I have green? Yes, Ma'am! But I'll keep it for another post.
