And then, this happened!

I offered my Mother In Law to make a table runner for her RV. She immediately said "yes, please!" Her mother was a quilter and she did a few quilts of her own in her younger years. Now, she is more a knitter and a crochet fanatic than a quilter.

Anywho! I started with some tulip blocks. I believe it was very popular in the 50s (time when my MIL got married) in my area.

Then I did some colourful log cabin blocks with the Full Moon Log Cabin Lunatics at Julie's place.

And then, this happened: 

I did say in my last post that you would need to wait til the next full moon to see what I was up to ...  but I couldn't wait that long. Hahaha!

Next week, it will pay a visit to my MIL to see how much bigger it needs to be, or maybe she will like it at this size! We'll see. It is 18 X 36 inches. 

Now that this project is out of my head, I can concentrate again on the 365 Challenge blocks.

Cut, cut, cut!!

Log, log, log!!

I've cut a lot of strips for my log cabin blocks. Wait! What? Those are not black?




What am I up to now?

Trouble! of course lol.

I was hoping to finish it before the full moon, but you know me, when I plan something it never falls through. So all I show you, for now, is this:

Aren't they pretty? I love it. They need one more round each.  No, no, I didn't start a new project I promise. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the next full moon to see the finish product.

Logging on a full moon

It such a rare event that every news channel is talking about it. June's full moon is on the night of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. I guess we can call it the Solstice Moon. Oh! What a good name for a quilt. (wink!)

Anywho! I was logging like a lunatic yesterday.  Felling all those trees, trimming and cutting and ... lol.

Not that kind of logging. Mine was a whole lot more fun than that! ;^)  Here's some tiny little logs. 

Here's where the logs are stored until I built them into a "wall".  Yep, these are cookie trays from commercial cookie packaging.
I tried the plastic bags to store the pieces while doing Shakespeare in the Park and got tired of opening the bags all the time. So I am back to my old trick: cookie trays.

Different trays have different jobs. Some are perfect for bias tape. 

And of course, knickknacks galore. With four men in the house, I do a lot of cooking but sometimes, store bought snacks are a nice break. And if I buy it, I will use it. But I am digressing. Back to the cabin.

A cabin in progress. Some of these pieces are 3/4 of an inch. Since I started the 365 Challenge, I love things on a different scale. lol.

It is a pattern by Judy Martin called the "Shoreline". I love her quilts and her patterns are so well made. Not only does she write the sizes of the pieces (duh! of course!) but the order in which it should be pieced AND which way to press each piece. Love that!!  It is so easy to follow.

Will I be logging again today? That will depend on this little guy.

This is to be expected when working in the forest, hauling logs, right? lol
But I'll keep that for another post. :)<

My "One Monthly Goal" is ...

I really had to think about this because so many projects could use the extra attention.


Westering Woman is once a month and I am up to par with that one. Yay!!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge is about using up your scrap in the colour of the month. Since I have only one  block to do per colour, I am good on that project too. Yay!!



Last year RSC quilt is still waiting to be quilted. No "Yay".

My Jubilee quilt,  (hexagon quilt) "Quilt of the Century" as I like to call it, is languishing on top of the frame. No "Yay".
The Ohio Star quilt in the frame is also languishing for some attention since ... ummm ... last year? No "Yay".

The 365 Challenge is still two month behind the schedule as set up by Kathy. No "Yay".
My usual summer project, Rose Dream, hasn't been touched since ... well, last summer. No "Yay".

Then, there's the tulips table runner for my M&FIL
Oh, oh! and there's also a new project, the log cabin, a quilt along with Julie. Only half of a block done so far. Not much of a "Yay" there either.

And then, I have unearthed Jacob's Ladder which is now calling for a border. That quilt was started in 2013. No "Yay".

So which one to pick? Which one is more interesting?



Last Sunday, to join the group  Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy, I worked with hexagons and I enjoyed it and fell back in love with it. So I would like to attach one more row on that one.

RSC 2015 should be easy to quilt as one of the sewing machine is already set up with the walking foot. So this one is not too demanding, except I can't do it outside. You know it is summer now. Who wants to be stuck in the basement during summer? Not me.

Same goes for Ohio Star and Shakespeare. Sooooo ...

That leaves me with the 365 Challenge and I do want to work on this one. So, now the question is:

How many?

I won't try for the entire month of April since I was unable to accomplish this back in April lol. AND it is summer you know! What if I have to make it past the 15th of the month? Yyyyeesss! I could do that!  So I will do two weeks of blocks in a month? I will still be behind like further than ever!! That's not good. Okay! I'll do it! I'll do the ENTIRE month of April. (Yikes!!)

Messy Sewing Sessions

For someone who said she won't start a new project ... I sure am in trouble! On the other hand, they are very beautiful troubles. :^D



The mitred corners blocks for the 365 Challenge were really a challenge for me. I made it my OMG (One Monthly Goal) challenge to kick my butt into action help me along.

To alleviate the tension in the sewing room, these string blocks started to appear. (as per last week.)

Last month, the RSC's colour was orange and some string blocks turned out orange.

And then, this happened!  (For those who followed by blog for a long time, I did do a few string blocks about two years ago as testers. They have joined the newest ones.)

Well, there's no point in stopping now, right?  :^D  This week, the string blocks turned green,

 and that is how a string quilt was started in my sewing room without my consent. (hehehe.)

Somehow, the army of strings on the sewing table managed to construct the 365 Challenge blocks.

Okay, so the last one (bottom right) is not a mitred corner block like on the pattern. It is a HSTs block because I just couldn't rise in the morning knowing I had to face another mitred corner block. (Sorry but I was beyond my limit.) Especially that the block in question had 8 (yes eight! like a spider!) mitred corners.

Those blocks really hindered my opinion of my sewing talent! So I had to pieced some more just to easy my mind. 

Aaaahh! I feel better. Which brings me to the block of March 21st.
(Yes, I am exactly TWO months behind!)

And look which block Kathryn chose for that day.   YIKES!!

I mean just LOOK at it!

For those of you who don't understand why this is so hair raising for me, let me explain.

Julie from Julie K Quilts called a kind-of-sew-along with log cabin blocks, appropriately called "Log Cabin Lunacy". You pick your colours, layout, and size, and make your blocks when you can,  as long as it's log cabin blocks, it's good. The linky party to show our progress is once a month, on the day of the full moon. (You know, luna=moon. Just love this.)

Well, today is the FULL MOON day! (paste sound of a terrified woman screaming here!)

How did Julie knew? OOoooohhh! CreeEEeepy! (So happy we're not in October!!)

Anywho!! I will make a log cabin today. Or two, because this little wee one will not go into my log cabin quilt.
But the next ones will ! They will also be bigger. HA!

These are the fabrics I pulled out so far for the Log Cabin quilt, all from my stash. I'll have to find more light coloured fabrics  ...  and maybe one other colour?  Haven't done a B/W quilt yet.

And I picked the layout too ... but you'll have to wait until the next full moon to see it.
