What Cabin Fever Turned Me Into

It all started with the need of finding more Aqua/Turquoise fabric to finish my RSC Challenge back in March.

I dived into my strings bins looking for aqua and found more than that ...

... so much more than just aqua. I started to itch to sew them all together. It was fun! After the aqua was done, I couldn't stop.

Somehow this happened. (!!??)

I thought I needed some straight strings for another piece, because I couldn't stop. I needed to sew these scraps together and turned my eyes to my 1.5 inches strips bin. Oh Yes Baby!

I instantly developed a yearning to sew 9 patch block. Somehow this happened. (!!??)

And this!
Alternate block to the 9 Patch

And a blooper. what's a good sewing session without a blooper?

After, I put the strips back in the bin properly as it was just a big mess before, (Should have taken a picture of the before.) some pieces were too short to be used in a 9 patch block (see pile on the left of the bin in the earlier photo). Now I had more scraps to sew and the fever gain on me to just sew some more.

Again, I don't know what these are for (!!) and why I am doing this (??)

We interrupt this program for an important information.

Health care people need more masks.

So masks were made.

Some for men
Some for ladies

They are open on the sides so the nurses, doctors, etc, can insert additional protection. The pattern was given to The Artisanat Club by the clinic.
Sew until I ran out of elastic. 9 for ladies and 10 for men. And the scraps are calling my name from the corner of the picture!

Thank you, health care people, cashiers, first respondents, and all of you out there for your daily sacrifice.

Now back to our regular programming.

Meanwhile, I found in a gifted bag of scraps (from a long time gone social gatherings), this piece. It's a baby panel that is commercially quilted ...

... but it has no backing. (!! ??)

Okay! So? What is one supposed to do with this? This batting is not even soft!! Yuk!

I got a mind of taking it apart. Yes, I know, right! I'm going crazy. Totally too late for me. haha!

I can hear Cynthia, (Quilting is More Fun than Housework) who hates to un-stitch, wondering "Why would anyone want to undo all that?"  I don't know!! The Cabin Fever made me do it!

When I got back into my sewing room, those funny strips were still there. They were calling my name  again.
I felt the pressure to sew some more together. And this happened.

Yet, more and more were coming out.

AAAAAhhhh!!!

I can't TAKE it anyMORE!!!

The scraps are invading me!!

With my youngest son's help, we turned an ugly, sun-faded chair into this. (Again, didn't take a before picture. Sorry)

For first time upholsterers, I think we did a pretty good job. We deserve an A on this one ... or a box of Oreo cookies. :^D

And one place mat almost done. Wonder what I could use to bind it with?

How about some scraps?   ðŸ˜µ AAAhhhhhhhhhh!

Saturday, April 4th, was such a hot gorgeous day that everyone wanted to be outside. But we have to keep our distance and this is what social distancing means ...
...  socializing from a distance. I love this. The neighbours are sitting at the end of their driveways, talking the afternoon away. (Seen from my living room window)

;^)

This post's meant to bring a smile to your face. Hope I succeeded. Have a great one. ♥

RSC = Aqua (like in swimming pool?)

Angela from Soscrappy chose Aqua for the colour of June. It's never been in my stash before but thanks to quilters who do ADD this colour to their gorgeous quilt, I fell in love with the colour and added it to my own repertoire.

But first, I have to finish the month of May. Last time, I forgot to show you my string blocks in green. All together now; SsssMilE!

Peace and Plenty in aqua is just so cooooooollll !! Love it.  A swimming pool would really be nice today as the weather is hot and sticky. Good time to just sit and stitch.

I was afraid the blue stars in the  background fabric wouldn't play nice with aqua but it works.

Joining Angela's party of Rainbows. Are you in?

I am also joining Chookyblue this weekend as she's having a sewing party. Virtually that is. I am not flying to Australia this weekend, lol. (but that would be sooooo nice, awwwhhh!) Anywho! Back to my sewing machine because ... my friends are waiting for me. :^)

Until next time ...    :)<

Design Wall Monday ...

... and I DO have one! A real Design Wall and not just a Design Floor. Yeah! Thanks to DH and a white bed sheet.

Some of these blocks were photographed with my son's iphone on a previous post and didn't make very good pics, so let's start anew.

With this one.
It is called Attic Window and I picked it up from the Quilter's cache site a long time ago. As you can see, I have to re-size the trapezoid pieces and also change one of the beige. I am not in love with this low contrast.  It is a flannel quilt that will have to wait a little longer to get done.

These were also photographed (badly) with the phone and some were added since then.

I got the block from Sue Garman's blog last year. (You have to scroll almost to the bottom of the page to see the quilt.)  I think it is soooo lovely.  Anyone knows the name of this block?  I keep calling it Sue Garman' antique block. Not sure she would appreciate that?!! Sorry Sue.

I started to put some 1.5 inch squares together to make some 9 patch blocks.
Yes, I do have a plan for these.  :c)

I also gave the string blocks a trial run. I like do these too.  (There's a story behind these which I will tell in another post.)
After making two, I realize that I don't have a lot of long strings. I'll have to remedy that. The star block is called Canada Star. I had no idea Canada had a star. I've learned it on Civic War Quilts blog a while back, so I made one  and ... well, not sure ... yet!

I started to play with this block (which actually was the first one of the lot) and I have abandoned it for Sue Garman's antique blocks. They are much more fun to do.   :c)
It's a Jewel Box block which I have been saving remnants of fabric for because it's been on my to-do list since the beginning of my affair with quilts. Unfortunately, another quilt took the lead. Isn't it always the case?

I am also boning shirts and I have learned something on Pinterest. You can make little pockets/bags with the cuffs of men's shirts to store little treasures, jewelry, medications.
It keeps my USB keys together and so much easier to find when I look for it. It is sooo simple to do. Have to make more of these. Love it.

And then Lori from Humble Quilts surprised us with a Cascadia  quiltalong MYSTERY doll quilt! Who can resist?  I caved!  :^D  Here is part 1.

Onto another note;

** The sewing room re-organizing is not completed but it is SOOOO much better. The shelves screwed to the walls were removed to de-clutter the house when we first put it up for sale. Since then, my stash was stuffed into bins. It is such a chore to pick fabric from bins. This weekend, while getting the house ready for winter, I decided to remove the books from the book unit and put THEM in the bins. I finally got my fabric in plain view! YES Ma'm!! It is so much easier.
Like I've said I am NOT done. I will refold these so it looks better... eventually!  Some bins will have to stay because this is all the space I have ... for the moment. DH has added another shelf at the bottom since this photo was taken.

** Didn't touch the Dresden plates blocks.

** No, the chair is not finished either.

** and I've got the flu. (Thank God for Tylenol!!) I'll be making soup (again) for diner ... maybe some pumpkin soup? Sounds good to me!

Linking to Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday.

Hope you have a better day than I do and some sewing time too.

Until next time...

Smile...
