Ready for Red and Spinners

My week didn't go as plan at all. First, we had another 6 inches of snow that was NOT planned. 

DH got the stomach flu on Tuesday and passed it on to me on Friday. Gotta love a generous guy like that, haha. I wasn't as sick as he was but it's still not pleasant. I didn't go to work Friday as prevention for my coworkers. I still feel woozy today. 

Regardless, I managed to sew this week and get this one together. 

Yesssss! Spinners is a top! Whoohoo. I got all the stained pieces out and sewed it all together. See this post to read about the misadventure. Can you believe it was way back in 2022? It's about time it gets finish. You can see in the background that the snow didn't stay very long. 

And I also did this: 

Yep! I took Elvis apart. Oh no! Poor Elvis. 

I don't like this poly-pretend-I'm-batting thing to the point that I HAD to remove it. Our annual Artisanat's exposition is coming at the end of the month and I would like to show it off. And I want it to look nice! It will get a lot of attention this weekend. 😉

On to the Red scraps, very little got done. 

3 April Fool blocks

Because I have all those bags of scraps to go through and I found some more reds. 

I love that one in the top right but not sure what to do with it. There was way more of the yellow star one. It has already been cut by the time I decided to take this picture.

My leader-ender is not progressing much. 

Yep, one of them is different. I still "bloope" every now and again. Lol. My main leader-ender lately is Rail Fence. 

These are for the 9-Patch quilt but they are very boring to photograph so I don't bother. 

I'm not done going through the Walmart bag from last post, but I got all these whites/neutrals out of it. These neutrals were the reason I bought the bag. 

I will be making more triangles for the Stained Glass Quilt. 

This is ... I don't know what this is but there's a lot it. The big piece of the left is folded 4 times. It's a rough cotton, not quite as thick as canvas but close. The white flowers are painted on like some bad whites I get now and then. The needle has much trouble going through these kinds of prints and gets dull in no time. Disappointed. Out it went. 

I believe that's it for now. I'll catch you again next weekend.

Too Many Quilts Are Calling My Name! (Plans for 2023)

Can you believe that I forgot to mention Spinners in my last post? After all the trouble I had with this quilt, I managed to forget it. So let's add it here. 

The block was proposed by Border Creek Station as their Stash Buster Challenge block for 2021. 

It was included in my RSC2022 blocks whenever Angela called a colour I wanted to include in it. Then, Raven had an infection, and suffice it to say some blocks got stained. :^(  I've repaired some but there are still a few more to go. It is now considered a UFO. Also not mentioned in the last post are the placemats I did as part of the Table Scrap Challenge hosted by Joyful Quilter. There was a theme picked each month too. 

 Thanks, Joy, for the fun challenges. ;^) Using up scraps is always fun. 

Okay, now on to 2023! Hopefully, I won't forget any. (I'm really getting forgetful in my old age ... or is it the wine?)

I did four different blocks for RSC2022. Although I love the way RSC works, it isn't always easy to integrate blocks that need a multitude of colours. So many of those quilts are calling my name that I decided to work on them this year, and I will join Angela for the RSC2023 whenever possible. The Rainbow UFO Challenge is still on and my list is done. This year, I give myself two months for each UFO. A month goes by too fast for any real work to be done. (Hopefully, I will be allowed to work from home. If that happens, I'll have more time to sew and maybe finish something. Yay!) 

I won't repeat the projects from past years mentioned in my previous post. The following are the new temptations projects.

Friends' Favourite (found on Fiona's blog BubzRugz)

I call this one Friends' Favourite because it was made by a friend who altered it from a larger block her friend had made. She shared it with another friend of hers who shared it with me. 

After making these blocks, I realized that the border is actually the sashing. Oops! 

Aah! That's better. (Not in love with the double zero piece here. Hrmph!)

Idaho Square Dance (Bonnie K. Hunter from her book Addicted to Scraps.)

None of the Log Cabin blocks are done. 

Paper Chain from Cathy at Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilts

I love this one as it uses more coloured fabric than white/neutral fabric. And who doesn't have a bazillion of 2" squares? 

Crooked Creek and Around T Time are on the backburners for now. 

You might have noticed that I am still working with very small pieces. Fun! It might have occurred to you that none of my projects need 9-Patch (97 done in 2022) and very few HST blocks. They will nevertheless still be my preferred leader-enders. Someday, I'll get to those quilts!

Frenetically Sewing

Got up early this morning so I can sew the last pieces for Spinners, as my son is moving back into his room TODAY!

Only one more block to go. If you think the first block in the third row looks funny, you're right. The points don't want to align and I have no time to waste with this sort of shenanigans, so it's only partly joined. 

I got all the blocks finished with only half an hour to go. I tagged them with a little piece of paper so I'll know which side is up. As I work on these, I realized that there are more stained pieces than I first thought. See this post to read about this misadventure. 

I believe I now have two options before me. Either I removed the blocks that aren't stained and add more blocks to make a decent size quilt, and with the stained blocks make a quilt for Raven OR sew them all together and give the quilt to Raven. Either way, this cat is getting a quilt. 😄 

Once assembled, it will not be a very big quilt, more like a throw. I enjoyed making this one so you might see its twin at some point. For now, the blocks are back on the self. 

While sewing the last small HSTs needed for these blocks, I managed to sew these. 

I forgot that these blocks are made with whites only. Oh well! I guess I have sewn my label block this morning. 😋

I totally blame Cathy (Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilts) for these. 😂😜 She made this great quilt (shown here) and gave us the link to the tutorial. Well, what's a quilter's to do but get sewing. The worst part is that they are fun and quick to make too. I am so doomed! 😂😂 The more I want to finish UFOs the more I get into new projects. Why is that? 

It is a long weekend here in Canada which is a good thing because I have so many greens to sew.

And It's Only May!

I feel like everything is moving forward but me. 

I manage just a little bit of sewing last weekend. I can't seem to sit down at the sewing machine during the week evenings.

Jericho Wall "Olive Green" is the only block made so far, with a little 9-Patch as leader-ender. 

No progress on any of my personal Rainbow UFO Challenges. Sigh!

MIL Table Topper

My MIL decided to sell her camper and everything with it. She said she's having too much fun where she is now and the A/C is free, haha. We're stuck in a heatwave and it's only MAY! We aren't used to the heat yet and it got cranked up to the 33C. Even the nights aren't cool. Anywho! I'm happy for her but selling her camper means she has no use for the table topper I was working on. I know I should have given it to her a long, long time ago but ... Oh well. Now I don't feel like working on it anymore. Again!

All the tulips are quilted. I thought of doing ditch quilting in the log cabin blocks

Not the best quilting but it's quilted. Threads aren't borrowed either. 
Still lots to do.

My son is moving back home next weekend. I'll try to move Spinners closer to the finish line. 

It will be easier to put it away once the blocks are done.

Then, I noticed spots on some blocks.

It looks like Raven came into this room and shook his head when his abscess busted last month. Now I have to finish a quilt not knowing if it's stained forever or not. Sigh!

DH is mowing the lawn for the second week in a row ... and it's only MAY! It was due too. The grass is as tall as the mower's wheels. 

I finally got the email thanking me for applying for the job; it also said that I was a close second. What's the use of knowing that? Anywho! I do have a job so I've lost nothing. Except for the bigger paycheck, haha. Better luck next time, I guess.

International Quilting Day in Yellow

March 19 is the International Quilting Day. As if we need an excuse to sew, lol. But I will grab this statement and I will run, run, run my sewing needle through it. 😁

A little bit of Yellow got together this week. 

Four solid blocks from yellow to gold; they go together so fast. 

A third Jericho Wall block, and number four too, were made this week. 

(Sorry for the dark pictures. It is raining this morning.) 

I have one more yellow Jericho Wall cut. It shall be sewn this weekend. 

I also assembled a Spinner block as I've finished enough 2" HSTs to complete it. It's yellow! 

One little crumb brick for the Chaser quilt was also assembled. 

I will work on the yellow placemat this weekend and Scrap Jar Star. Oh, so many pretty things to sew, so little time.

March Rainbow UFO Challenge

On Tuesday, we woke up to a Winter Wonderland perfect landscape once again. We are to get some more this weekend. Hopefully, it's the last time I need to shovel. 

More Spinners' blocks were sewn during February. 

Did the two missing blocks. I found another solid blue that wasn't already in this quilt so I added it along with a soft purple. I'm happy with that. 

Did lots and lots of little HSTs and sewed them in the 4-Patch formation in order to finish a few more blocks.

 

So here's what was ...

... and what is now. 

Like a puzzle, lots of HSTs units are missing, leaving gaps in the big picture. I have to be careful how I build them now as the units have to "befriend" their neighbours. So I make 2 or 3 units at a time, take them to the design floor, and try to find them a place to live. It's a slow pace but I like it. I'm happy with the progress too. 

In my Rainbow UFO Challenge, the colour yellow is tagged to the Buttons and Spools project which needs to be quilted. Since Field of Poppies is pinned already, I will switch these two around. I will work on Buttons and Spools when the colour green is called. (Or whenever Field of Poppies is done.)
