Slowly Getting Into Pink

Well, I'm finally playing with Pink. Not many days left before the end of the month but here it is.

The yellow scraps weren't used as much as I had planned. Not much difference between the first picture (beginning of the month) and the second picture (end of the month).

I separated the "gold" yellow from the rest, the bag on top on the right. On the left are the yellows with other colours that I wanted to turn into 9 patches. Oh well! At the front, unfinished crumb blocks.

In my defence, Yellow does not have a scrap basket. The bigger scraps are also in these bags compared to other colours which have a basket to store the larger pieces. Anywho!

The 9-patch blocks that were cut and waiting by the sewing machine to be sewed are done.
A friend gave me a little bag of scraps and those blues were too nice not to play with. Hehehe.

Decluttering with Joy ( 100 Days 100 Things Decluttered )

I spent some time trying out summer outfits that no longer fit. So blouses and capri pants were sent to the second-hand store. Boy! That store must love me lately.
I had kept a faux leather bag thinking my son could use it as he started college. It is the perfect size for a laptop. He prefers to keep his laptop in his backpack. Goodbye, blue bag sporting my "ex" job union logo.

Please answer this: How come the scraps multiply when no one's looking, but the stitches on a quilt never change?
I didn't work on my hand-quilting project for over a month and it didn't help itself either. The injustice is unbearable!! Lol.

So where am I at?

This is the pink scrap I have, and no scrap basket either. There are only small pieces in there. Nothing was big enough for the Double Halo Star block, so I used a pink yardage.

The star for the Double Halo block is completed. It's a start...

Also started are two tulip blocks. A little yellow crumb block was used as the leader ender while sewing these parts. (While looking at this picture, a squirrel sneaked in and whispered something in my ear. OMG! Another quilt to make!)

My Pink Rainbow UFO Challenge didn't even make it out of the drawer. These challenges aren't doing so well this year. Pictures of Dreaming in Dutch - Rainbow UFO Challenge for May as a reminder of what it looks like.

The pink tulips were done in January 2021.

All the blocks were made but I can't locate a picture will all of them. This is the best I have. Sorry.

This past week, we had a fright when we saw that cloud coming towards us on Wednesday.

I stared at it for a few seconds to make sure it wasn't spinning. We usually don't have twisters in Canada, but then again, the weather is so unpredictable nowadays. Luckily, there were minimal winds but lots of heavy rain. No damage. Just a good fright.

I spotted these sweet faces behind my place on Friday morning.

So, I think that's all I have. I'll try to be more productive but work is still zapping a lot of my energy. I like it though.

I hope you too are enjoying what you're doing.

Made From Scratch

My crumb Chaser (or Brick) is a top! I call it:

Made From Scratch

Doesn't it suit it perfectly?

I used up all the grey yardage(?) that I had. Four blocks were made and not used due to the layout of 7 blocks in a row. Then I found 3 blocks that I had forgotten I had made. Whoop Whoop! I suddenly had enough grey for another row so I did it in pink.  (Bottom row)  I went for a weaving pattern.

It now stands at 64" X 56". All those little pieces were rescued from being dumped in the landfill.

I wish I could quilt it, but my Janome (that does the quilting) decided to quit on me. It needs a doctor's appointment. Sigh!

Let's go piece something else. :^D

We are still waiting for Spring to show up. No sign of it yet. Sigh!

Enjoy!

All Over the Place

It must be the full moon because I just can't stay put. Painting the house is coming along ... not so fine.

The background colour is waaayy too orange even for me. It needs to calm down a notch or two. Let's revisit that colour mixer.

My design wall is very busy with all kinds of projects.
A light blue crumb block is finished.

Another orange one got done too. Yes, I know, orange is so last month but it was almost done and I wanted to finish it.
Pink gave me a very light orange solid fabric and I just had to turn it into this Buckeye Beauty variant block.

Then, there's the Hole in the Barn Door borders. I set them on the floor to take a picture. It was easier that way.
Will the borders be on three sides only? I have no idea why I haven't started the fourth one. I guess I'm just funny that way. I will fix that today.

A dark green placemat is also taking shape. I don't have enough light blue fabrics to fill a placemat so I decided to make the Dark Green placemat since I didn't have time to do it during Dark Green Month. Let me rephrase that. I have enough light blue fabrics but the variety is lacking.

While searching for suitable greens for the placemat I found a dark neutral and a Framed 9-patch block was born.

Field of Poppies has all its poppies blocks quilted. On with the next blocks in white thread.

I'm starting to sound like an overachiever but I'm not. My sewing room looks like a mini tornado passed through it. The colours, the textures, the prints, on the wall, on the floor, on every flat and not-so-flat surface, it's overwhelming ... but fun! Too bad I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Spinning My Wheels

I am still pondering about my RSC2022 options. The list is way too long and I find it hard to remove some contenders. Anyone else with this kind of problem?

The 9-Patch and HSTs are still on ... like forever! Haha.

The crumb bricks too as I don't have enough to do anything with these.

Chaser Crumb Blocks

Chaser Crumb to be trimmed and sashed

What if I make a mask every month? It looks like we will be needing these for some time still. One thing I forgot to say in my previous post is that we are working from home again. I go to the office two mornings a week to distribute incoming mail and to mail out what was printed by the caseworkers. I like this routine as it gets me out of the house without meeting anyone. Win-win.
Masks done in November.
The cat one has been washed already and the fabric shrunk
but not the liner so I have to redo this one.
The yellow one is not finished.

I would love to do a Scrap Jar Star quilt. So I will start sewing 4-Patch blocks (or 16 Patch blocks) (same thing). Do I sew the block in rainbow colours or one colour?

Both are pleasing to me. Sigh!

Then the strings are demanding some attention. I have an idea that would be an opportunity for some of them to shine. Still on the drawing board but here's what I have so far.

The solid coloured fabric from my mother's stash is also something I would like to use up and I love this quilt.
from Google search

There's also this.

Hmm! It could be interesting. No, I don't know the name. Yes, I know where I'm going with this.

I would also love to make another Hidden Gems quilt

or a Burgoyne Surrounded but for a big quilt this time.

How many hours of sewing do I have in a month? Darn!  That really cramp my style.

There's also my Personal Rainbow UFO Challenge. The colour red calls for a new project but that's for another post. Stay tuned.

Oh! Almost forgot. I have two finishes to show you. YES!

First, it's Stars in Blue, labeled and all. My first finish of the year! Yay!

Remember this panel I salvaged from a year ago? It was quilted with only batting. No backing. See this post for the story behind it. It was the perfect size for Stars in Blue. Win/win! (I know it's not straight but it'll do.)

The binding is built with dark blue scraps.

I think it was the only solution to my dilemma since nothing looked good from the front and the back.

Then, there's this finish.

Phew! Made it. Looking at the fabric for clues of who goes with who was impossible in the Spider Web quilt. Once I organized the yellow pieces together, pointing in the same direction, it went so much faster.
All I had to do was to turn the pieces in my hand and search for the yellow piece going to the right.

The rest of the pieces were picked as per their unique shape.

Now, I'll take it apart and put it away so my son can work on the puzzle he received on New Year's Eve.

It's nothing interesting so I won't keep you posted on this one.

The original post was supposed to finish with this paragraph.

I am sorry to announce that the year didn't start on the right foot for us. Raven disappeared on January 3. I've been very down and still am. I'm pushing myself to sew as I know it will help me (and you will too with the comments and your posts about wonderful stuff). Thank you for being there.

BUT

After 10 days away, he came back home. I just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him on the deck. He lost a lot of weight but is otherwise okay as you can tell from this picture.

He's still sassy! Haha. I'm so happy.

Have a great one!

Orange Fall

WARNING - RANTING: (you may skip to the post below if you wish)
Blogger deleted my email address AGAIN from the settings so I did not receive your comments from the last post in my inbox. I'm really fed up with this childish war they have with other Internet providers. Because we are using another internet platform, Blogger (Google) cut us off. Like F* you! This was a free country last time I looked and I can shop and use whatever provider I wish. Can you imagine a grocery store telling you: "you can't shop here anymore because I saw you go into the other grocery store last week." Like F* you! Seriously! I sent Blogger a "nice" letter with a little piece of my mind on all this stupid, ugly war of theirs. I mean, what's the point in having options if I can't use them? No other company makes it SO HARD for their clients to use their products. I asked them to contact me directly at my GMAIL account which is by GOOGLE too!!  (Deep breath in.)
P.S. Anyone who wishes to write to Blogger can do so by clicking the question mark on the top right of the screen.
P.P.S. I did read your comments and I will reply shortly. Thank you for your patience. :^)

Sorry about that. Now, on to more pleasant things. 😊

Fall is coming our way and I have orange to play with. Two of my favourite things. 😁

Three orange tulips were made ...

... right after the purple ones actually, as I couldn't wait any longer to see the quilt come together and to play with orange. I also thought that it was the only missing colour in my quilt. When I set the blocks together I realized the quilt would be too small hence the addition of the aqua blocks.

This is a rough layout of what I want. I love this kind of layout and only see it in vintage quilts. Why don't we use it anymore? Or very rarely. Too bad because I like it when it is used with the right type of blocks.

So now I am missing a block. Since I only have two pinks, one more will be assembled. Then every colour will have the same number of blocks. Hopefully, I can find what I need in my (limited) pink stash. 🤞

Or maybe I could make a multi-coloured one. Oh! Wouldn't that be nice?

My personal UFO Rainbow Scrap Challenge is Hole in the Barn Door. All the blocks are done back in 2017. (I know it the last post I said 2016 but it's wrong.)

I want to add a sashing "à la Bonnie". (Bonnie K. Hunter) What do you think?

It's gonna take a while to finish this but hey, it's not a race. The cornerstones will be white. If this doesn't diminish my scraps, nothing will. Haha.

Just because he's the best-looking cat in all the county, here's another picture of Raven.

Have a great week everyone.

Back to Sewing

It's a long weekend and I intend to sew! I hope the weather will let me sew outside again this year.

I am late to the party because I don't have much to show again and thought of skipping making a post.  😊

Going back to the office meant less sewing time. Having to make black masks for DS2 meant not much "interesting" sewing done. Haha! Son changed job and at the new place, he can only wear black masks. I had bought (a while back ... ok, long ago) 2 yards of black cotton to make a quilt. It is now relegated to mask making. 🙄

I did cut into the mask panel and did a few of those for me.

Some HSTs ... of course

... and a second aqua tulip block. That is all I did in the last two weeks.

How about some real flowers, like those around my house.

My very first Dahlia. Every time I planted this tuber plant, the chipmunk would eat it. Now that the big green-eye monster lives with us, the chipmunk left the dahlia alone. Horray for Raven!

Don't know what this is but it grows wild and quite tall behind the shed. It's actually cute.

My Rudbeckia (aka Black Eye Susan) around the clothesline post. They enjoyed all the rain we had this year.

September's colour is ORANGE! No kidding I'll have more sewing to show you next Saturday. 😁 Can't wait to dig in. Stay tuned!

My Personal UFO Rainbow Challenge is Hole in the Barn Door from 2016. The blocks were made with tiny little bits of whatever fabric and the colour of the month. Don't know if I need more blocks or not. I'll look at it this weekend.

Whatever the outcome, there's always something pleasant in each day. Enjoy it!
