So This is Christmas ...

I hope it was a good one and you have good stories to tell. For me, not so much. On the 19th of December, DS2 got the intestinal flu, and two days later DS3 caught it (he's home for the week, what a week he had poor thing!), then DS1 caught it too. I walked around the house with a can of Lysol spray and wipes, trying desperately to keep the germs at a minimum. When DH started to show symptoms, I knew it didn't look good for me. We cancelled all outings.

In preparation for the Holidays, I had cooked and baked so I could just enjoy the boys and sewing. Now, I'm stuck indoors with sick people still coughing their lungs out and none of them can eat anything but chicken noodle soup. Thank goodness for the freezer.

Before the awful 19th of December, I did finish a top!

Paper Chain quilt inspired by Cathy at Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilting

This quilt is heading to Quilts for Survivors in 2024. They asked for quilts of 48 X 64 and this one measures 50 X 67. I hope they accept it anyway. I'm planning to make another one to give to them, not like this but with 2" squares again.

My friend Anne is moving (downsizing) so she gave me lots of fabric, once again. She asked me if I wanted her serger machine. Euh! Yeaaah!

She still had the instruction book and everything else. I've never worked with a serger so that will be a new adventure.

♫ ♪ ♪ On the second day of Christmas ... ♫ ♪ the weatherman gave me ... a snow friend!

He was quite a charmer too, wanting hugs, winking, and all.

But then, my husband showed up and ... well ...

my snow friend took off! ⛄ Bye, bye!

I will do a recap of 2023 along with a list of (hopeful) projects for 2024. The first item on that list is a job!

May all be well and bright at your place. May Health and Joy be your guardians in the new year!
Take care all.

Picture taken on Christmas day. Yep, sometimes we don't have snow.

News Flash: I'm sick too! 😩😷

Take care. ;^)

Another Friday, Another Snow Storm

That's how we roll around here lately. Every Friday is Shovel Day!!!

Every Saturday morning is Winter Wonderland once again.

On the first Tuesday of the month, we had our Artisanat reunion. The challenge of the month was snowman! I know someone who just LOVES snowmen; me. :^) Of course, I had to participate in this challenge. I waited till the last day to do something as there were so many snowmen I wanted to do all month long. Anywho! Let's have a look. I took very few (good) pictures.

I just loved those little reindeer.  Her snowman was also knitted but the picture is too blurry. Sorry.

This is Michelle. She is presenting her own challenge. So whimsical! I love it.

And this is my take on the snowman challenge.  Cardboard, colouring pencils, a piece of ribbon, and a LED tea light. Voilà!

With the tealight on. It sits on my desk at work and I turn it on every morning just for fun.

So, what did I sew? I sewed two blue stars for the Irish Star quilt...

... and an ID card holder for a co-worker. This little 3 X 4.5" pocket took way too long to do. I don't know how many times I had to redo the sides, then the top part was crooked. Anywho! It's done! It is very dark as per her request with purple swirls all over.

I also got this one together. Yay!
Jericho Wall (RSC 2022) is a top. I'm very happy with how this one turned out.

Can you see how deep the snow is? We had a good 7-8" of snow and I didn't bother to shovel the deck before taking the pictures. Oh! I'm getting lazy, haha.

Hope you are all well and warm!

Peaceful Holidays

Frosty grew to 23" before the sun melted him down.

With everything wrong in this world, I wish you all a peaceful Christmas, or a peaceful whatever you're celebrating.

A storm is passing through my town. It started with some hot weather on Friday, like +5C and rain, then it came down to normal temperature for this time of year with strong winds and snow. Everything is frozen. The visibility was barely 200 feet when I drove home, but I got home okay. I wish that all your family members arrive safe and sound. The wind is hurling tonight but I have a warm house. I wish everyone had a warm house. I had to run to the store because we ran out of milk. I wish everyone had a full belly and more than just the bare necessities. I am blessed with a good family, lots of friends, and a job. May everyone be as blessed as I am.

Raven sitting on the bird seeds, waiting for them to show up.

A little bit of leader-ender while assembling Jericho Wall.

Hopefully, there will be more sewing time next week.

Take care everyone. 💗

Winter's Here!

Just like that, you wake up one day and it's winter! I should have taken a picture yesterday to show how green the grass was.
December 16, 2022

My flaky friend showed up this morning. :^)

It was still dark out when he showed up. I had to feed the birds and had turned the porch lights on. He hopped onto the patio table with a big grin. He was happy to see me again, even with my morning hairdo! He's even not 6" tall but I'm sure he will grow some more.

I did some deconstruction.
The fabrics to make the adult bibs were sewn together (two of cotton with one flannel) around the edges to make drawing the pattern easier. We cut them out after the pattern was sewn. Then the bibs were flipped inside out. Anywho, it made a lot of leftover fabric to unpick. Can you see the big bag in front of me? I'm having fun. Just a little bit more left to do. I decided to separate the pieces by the colour of the flannel.
Sitting on the floor, watching TV and deconstructing: the pile on the left

The pile on the right

These little bits will become HSTs in no time. Fun!

Still more to sew too. The white fabric on top of the pictures is the sashing for Hole in the Barn Door.

Slowly building Jericho Wall in quadrants.

These are attached together.

These are still rows.

I decided to make the sashing scrappy.
It's hard to photograph white as it reflects the light a lot. Hopefully, you can see the beginning of this sashing has numbers and the end has flowers. I have so many skinny strips that are not long enough for the sashing that I decided to make do.

Oh! Got to go. Someone's knocking at the door.
He didn't like the snow last year but now, he doesn't mind it at all.

Yeah, I know, I'm a mess ... but I'm bright!

Take care, everyone, and stay warm.
;^)

P.S. We have over 10" and the snow is still coming. These pictures were taken early morning on Dec 17, 2022.

The BBQ doing his best Arnold Schwarzenegger impression, adding inches on both sides, lol.

The pines are so beautiful. I'll take another picture once the sun brings back colours to the world.

It is the nice kind of snow, you know the one that sticks together to make snowmen and forts. It sticks to bare branches too. And to the cat's fur. The poor thing could barely walk into the house this morning.

And this is Frosty. Yep, my little snow friend grew another 3" or so ... and lost its face, haha. I'll have to dig him out of there and give the birds more seeds too.

Full Moon on October 31 on a Ghastly Year!

This moon has a lot of influence on me. I was so excited all week. Or maybe it was this HORRible weather on Monday and Wednesday. The weatherman didn't say the F word but he used the S word.

I couldn't stop myself, I had to make one. hahaha! It looks happy to be here.

It pleases me.

As far as sewing went, well you don't want to see what I did. I fixed some holes in pants' pockets and holes in jeans and ... BOOring!

Made one more yellow crumb brick. Not sure about the umbrella fabric. (??)

Some units for a yellow scrap basket.
My scraps were DREADfully the same prints over and over, so I decided to put the units aside and wait till I get a variety of yellow scraps to finish the CASKET ... uh the basket.

The HSTs block's APPARITION happened the week before but was kept in the SHADOWS.
14 more to go.

My Button and Spool quilt has been fixed. See the last post to read the aggravating SPELL this quilt put me under. I'm so in love with it that I want one for myself now. There's always RSC 2021, right?

That's all, folks! Have a great Halloween! Stay home and eat candies! Mu-hahaha!

Ding dong! It's the postman!

Two weeks ago, Randy from Barrister's block had the HUGE, BORING task of cleaning up her sewing room.  I think we are all on the same level on this one; " yuck! ".  Randy was looking for helpers in the form of tips on how to organize things and how do others organize their magazines and fabrics and so on ...  Sew, I offered my two pennies worth of an idea. Then I got an email, saying that I WON !!!  Randy had picked two people to send them thank you gift for their comment and I was one of them.

And look what I got!!! WOW !!
SNOWday ... SEWday from Amy Bradley Designs ... Ooooohhhh! Lucky me! I love snowman ... I LOVE snowman!! (ok, ok, I know that everyone is soooooooo fed up of the sn*w, to the point where it is now a bad 4 letter word!)  Therefore, I won't say it again but you WILL see this quilt on this blog again... Ooooohhh yes!  It is my first Amy Bradley Designs pattern and it looks so easy to follow.  I have to really control myself not to start this one NOW!!!

To explain what I said on Randy's blog, this is a cereal box cut up and gift wrapped. I made this one really quick this morning and it is not very nice looking but it shows what I meant.  My nice ones are packed in boxes somewhere.  It works better with family size cereal boxes but this was the only one in the recycling bin this morning. (I mean "made REALLY quickly this morning" LOL.)
Thank you soooo much Randy.  You're soooo sweet ♥♥♥
