I Can Work with Black Again.

Angela announced the colour for July to be blue, as well as dark neutral, grey, and black. I am so happy! I get to play with black again. Ever since I received a squishy envelope, I've been itching to play with Shoreline again. But first, let's see how I did during this bad week.

I continued working on the Framed 9-Patch quilt and did four more. They were my personal RSC / UFO challenge for June.
Seafoam Green was helpful once again. Yay! Also did blue, grey, and darks for this month's RSC before I knew what the colour of July was. Awesome!

I celebrated my birthday (yep, they said that a Covid lockdown was not an excuse not to get older) and I went shopping with my youngest son. Stores are slowly opening here and I enjoyed a few hours in thrift stores. I adore thrift stores! I found these flannels, in MY favourite colours! They couldn't have screamed my name better than that. There's a yard in both.

Then, my sewing sessions were interrupted. You see, we have a urinal and it broke. It kept gushing water when my youngest flushed it. Needless to say, there was water everywhere, seeping through the floor down to the basement by the time we got this thing under control again. Guess which room is under the bathroom? Yes, my sewing room! There was a lot of fabric soaked. It kept me busy.

The next day, it did it again. With my youngest one, again! The poor boy doesn't want to come close to it anymore, haha. We were better prepared so the damages were minimal this time. DH will dismantle it and ship it to the dump. I don't want this thing in my house anymore.

Anywho! It got me looking at my sewing room and realize that I have a lot of projects on my sewing table, so much so that I am running out of tables. It's time to Spring clean my workplace.

I have the habit of throwing little bits of scraps in bins when I cut fabrics. It was time to sort them out.

First container, done.

Second container, done.
Look at all the scraps I regained! (I did this while working from home, waiting for work to come in through emails. It was a slow week. My laptop is in the upper right corner.)

Then, Canada had a birthday too. Happy Canada Day! Hope you had a great one! 🍁

Anywho! I won't bore you with every single container of scraps that I cleaned suffice to say there are six fewer containers on flat surfaces. Ha!

I found some treasures in there, like these cute fabrics. It is a rich brown paired with green and light baby blue.
They were a project's squared-off end I'm sure, as they were sewn side by side. I unpicked and sewn them on top of the other to make this little mug rug. I had the checked one in the middle then decided against it.
Sewn the three pieces left of this fabric living on my worktable to make the backing. It's blue and brown-ish. It'll work fine.
It is now ready for quilting. Quick project and fewer scraps.

Then, another container is slowly getting emptied as I worked on finishing this tiny little one.

You think you have seen this SuperNova Star before? Yes and no, as this one has HSTs of only 1 inch finished. The first one finished at 1.25 inches. Such a BIG difference, haha.

While working on the Supernova, my leader-ender were some more HSTs (surprised?) and I got one block done. This is HST Quilt #2. The green block is my visual reminder on how to sew the block.

I did a blue one because Angela had announced the colour for July by that time.

Another one is well underway. Picture was taken in the early morning light as it was too dark last night when I closed the sewing shop.

As soon as I'm done with SuperNova, I'm heading back to Shoreline, a Judy Martin design, because I received a squishy envelope, remember?

My friend at Amity Quilter has sent me some black scraps. I received her envelope a while back but couldn't work with it as I wanted to finish working on the Framed 9-Patch first. They aren't finished but Angela said black so ... I can work with black again! These fabrics are just what I needed for Shoreline.

Some will go into other projects as they are too lively for Shoreline, but aren't they gorgeous? Love them all!! The tablecloth is orange so these pictures are washed out. Sorry. BTW the tablecloth is another little treasure I found at the thrift store. It's great linen, as the good old stuff kind of linen. Yeah!

These scraps are just perfect. I'll be able to make many blocks with these beauties. Thanks again, Pat! I am so grateful and I am so in love with your scraps. 🥰

I have more to show (a tool review, personal RS Challenge for July, tulips) but it will wait for another post as this one is turning into a documentary length. Haha.

Take care. Enjoy life!

Finally! A Friday Finish

It's been such a long, long time since I've finished something quilty,

and then,

POW!

I got three!

I finished my little SuperNova. Super proud of that one! But it's really not big. 13 inches square.

I finished the Curve Challenge hosted by Cécile and Corinne. Thank you, ladies, for this fun challenge.
Overjoy with this one.

AAAnnnnndd, I finished ...

S M I L E

Ecstatic over this one.

It wasn't easy. I found the fabric for the binding and I barely had enough. Phew! But I couldn't sew it on because my quilting on the last border was horrible!
This fold was pretty deep, enough that I didn't even come close to the backing fabric when cutting the edges off. It involved removing the quilting in the center of the quilt, not just the last border.

Atrocious!
This ridge is like Mount Everest compared to the other bumps. Again, missing backing fabric after cutting the edges. Sigh!

Unpicking for a few evenings and re-quilting for a few more evenings got the job done nicely this time.

I had run out of pink thread when I did the pink block. So I finished that too ... only to have it unpicked too. Bigger sigh!
Everything that could go wrong with a quilt happened with this one. In the end, I still get to have a wonderful quilt.

Smile has the seal of approval from our black monster.

One more just for the heck of it.

I still have many threads ends to burrow.

The label is ready for Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy. Come and join us.

I'll leave you with some purple.

I wish they lasted longer.

A Finish In Sight

Really! I am not kidding you.

I am so close ... it's making me mad! I had the fabric for the binding of Smile. I thought to myself: "I'll put it here, so I don't use it for something else."  Do I remember where "HERE" is? Of course not!! I'm angry at myself. If I had left it where it was in the first place, the binding would be done by now! I would have a REAL finish to show you.

All I can find now are little remnants, not enough to make a binding 218 inches long. Sigh!!

Here's a picture of an ALMOST finished quilt. It's the best I can do at the moment.

Even if it didn't say "Happy New Millennium", you'd know it's an old fabric. I mean, no young girl these days would be caught in a coming-out-of-a-surprise-cake pose! and where are the cellphones???
The last border is quilted in black and while I had the black quilting thread on the machine, I quilted this mini one.

This one has the binding attached!!
Yay me! So, on Sunday, I will join Kathy for Slow Sunday Stitching. What a pleasure it will be to finally finish something ... no matter how small it is! It's 13 inches square, just big enough not to be mistaken for a mug rug. :^D

Got a little bit of time for sewing in the evenings. I manage to do the tulip blocks in red.

The other little Shoo-fly blocks are by the sewing machine as I did that block this morning before the boys wake up and didn't have time to finish it all.

All three red tulip blocks are done. One dark, one firetruck red, and one orange-y red. Once the blue blocks are finished, I'll take a picture of all the blocks together. That should be fun!!
So, I believe that's all I have for you for now.

Friday night (well here in Canada, it was Friday night), I was very sad and angry! I don't know if you were aware but Blogger was hacked and there were no blogs to be seen. Not ONE!! It made me realized to what extend I love being with you and reading about what you do. I was thrilled this morning when I saw that everything was right again. 🌞 You are very important to me. Wishing you all a wonderful day and may it overflows with goodness.

Red . . . and black or More Triangles!

From last week's post, all the red and black HSTs got trimmed! Most are 1.75 inches unfinished and some were trimmed at 1.5 inches.

I did press them outside last Saturday as it was so nice.

Clothespins to hold the little pieces down. I even got my cat to go outside. Like every child in this world, he didn't want to come back in after. 😼😸

But I digress.

Now what to do with these?  Sorry for the dark photo. It's raining again here.
So many possibilities; pinwheel, broken dish, shoo fly ...

Then this happened.

YES! My very own SuperNova Star. Yay me!

It's not exactly the way I imagined my Super Nova Star. The fabrics make it very busy if you ask me, but the triangles were already cut ... so ... you know.
Now, on to quilting it. With black thread, I think. What do you think? Red?

I did finish some masks for my sister. I am delivering them this morning to her. We are meeting in a parking lot (at Tim Horton, of course) because we are still in lockdown. Sigh!

I got 2 big bags of scraps this week. Soooo much fun going through these. Lots of beautiful flannel too.

I know. I owe you some tulip blocks. I haven't done the blue ones from April and you are patiently (I hope so anyway) for some tulip photos. But what else do I talk about these days besides triangles? Oh, that's right, there's my cat too! Haha!

So here's a green tulip.

and the sidekicks.
The three green tulips are now made. On to the next colour.

This is the red tulip I did last year. The one that started it all.

It was a busy week with the SuperNova Star block, but this weekend, I should be able to sew some tulip blocks. I am scheduled for volunteer work next Saturday, and then again on the 29th. Hopefully, I'll be able to sew during the week. Maybe? A little bit?

Take care.

The Red is Marching In

So much wonderful news is coming from Mars, the red planet. My boys are following the helicopter's "voyages" interestedly.

Me, I grabbed a bag of red and black triangles (again) and sew up a bunch of HSTs (again). The bag has been waiting for Angela to call its name. It's very happy to be in action.

It came to me in a gifted bag. I wish I could see the quilt it came from.

I don't know how many HSTs I can make from this bag; maybe 300? More? Less?
We'll see.

I have one hundred sewn already and some are even trimmed. Gosh, I am so productive tonight (Friday evening).

I thought there were two red fabrics with one black but the back of the blocks tell another story. Both black fabrics sport wind instruments and one has musical notes added.

Wonder what will become of these?

Some of you already know that my computer died and I lost a lot of files, photos and so on. Do NOT save your documents on your desktop. Let it be a lesson, please. I lost my dear Excel file where everything quilting was recorded. Thank goodness that I talked about my personal RS Challenge in a previous post and published it. I went back to it and I now know that my personal challenge for Red is:

by Judy Martin

This photo comes from Pinterest as I am not very far along with my quilt. Hopefully, more blocks will be made in May.  By the way, mine is red! And black. You can see it here.

Have a great one!
;^)

P.S. The suspense was killing me, lol. This morning (Saturday) I just had to sew the rest of the triangles. The bag is empty and I have . . .
215 HSTs

It is a nice morning, so I might just bring my ironing board outside and get these press. ;^)
