Do You Have SHIBs?

I sure have a lot of SHIBs. It seems like all I see lately are SHIBs.

Com'on! I'm sure I'm not the only who has some SHIBs! Look around you. Surely, you see a SHIB or two.

Aren't these blocks beautiful?  One has an appointment with the surgeon later today. They came to me in a bag.

What do you mean you don't know what a SHIB is? Squirrels Hiding In Bags, of course.

I got these 3 little pieces of fabric with sheep on it. I lay one facedown so you can see how light the print is. What to do with only 3 little squares? So, I thought ...

Shoo-fly!! because of the ones received in the same bag. I know that they don't match in any way, style or size,

and I have no intention of putting them together. No. I'm thinking of making a baby quilt with blue shoo-fly. You know, a blue-shoo! And that, my friend, is a true SHIB! 😄 (Never heard of this acronym before? Yes, I just came up with this today. I make them up as I roll. This storm weather is affecting me, lol.)

Back to our regular programming. The Pink Scrap Basket Saga.

I had some fun with free motion quilting this slab of scraps. Heart's Echo ...

and a single heart ... oops, upside-down.

a mushroom (don't know why, just felt like it) and a butterfly...

yes, I know, I should have slowed down before taking the curve to outline the shoe. Like I said, it was all fun ... until the thread broke. And again, and again. The thread suddenly decided it wasn't having it anymore. I unstitched a lot but missed a few, when the thread spitted all over but didn't break. Like this:

It's a little messy on the inside but I'm not about to redo this. I used this cherry print for the lining as it is quite a thin fabric. I'm not comfortable using it in a quilt.

So, how did I do with the Pink?
Beginning of January,

when I added some fabric
before finding two more pink bags.

compared to the end of the month. I just couldn't believe it. With all that I received that month? I looked for more pink, thinking I had left some somewhere. But nope. The Scrap Basket did it.

Not only does it take a lot of scraps to make a basket but it also stores a lot of scraps. All 3 bags are in and there's still some room. I'm so impressed with this. I'm tickled pink, lol.

While the machine was set up for quilting, I finished this little project from days of yore. I had started the quilting but abandoned it. (why?) It is now waiting for a binding. It's 8 and 3/4" square. What an odd measurement. Anywho.

In other news:
We get snowed in. Boy! Did we ever. We got 25cm (10") on Thursday and they are calling for more (47cm or 18.5") over this long weekend here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Okay, you're right, it's Canada. What else should I expect at this time of year but snow?

Well, let me tell you what I expect.

I expect to have some in December,
(It was barely covering the grass.)

... and then, some more in January.
(really? January?)
But it seems like someone, somewhere, decided to hold it all up and deliver it all at once. Sheesh! What gives, man?

Anywho! Next weekend, (edited: this was Feb 21st.) I'll be gone on a quilting retreat. YAAAYYY! I am getting ready by cutting, cutting, and cutting. I bought some new rotary blade (upmost importance), and this one came home.

I know, I know. I said I wouldn't buy any fabric because, holy hosers! I have so much. For those of you who know me, I don't have to say why it came home with me. For the others; it's orange! AND it was on sale as it's the end of the bolt. More than half a meter (0.6m) for only $8 when a full meter goes for $24. Whoohoo. Oh! you bet I know what to do with this one, lol.

Well, that's all I have, my friends. I probably won't "see" you next week, so you take care and enjoy your sewing journeys.

I Was Wrong

I thought the spool and the bobbin would finish at the same time or pretty close.

I was wrong.

The bobbin ended first. There was still quite a lot on the cone. Yes, I was still sewing pink and drank coffee from my orange cup and not a Tim Horton's coffee. I rarely get a chance to have a Tim. Anywho!

... the next day ...

... this came crawling up my machine. The cone was done too. It was very anti-climax.

On Tuesday, I went to the Artisanat group meeting and came back home with, yes, again, more gifted bags.

At the bottom left, I love those circles on the light blue, but all those fabric are canvas or upholstery thickness. The pile on the right is quilting quality. More Pink! Didn't look in the other two bags yet.

I said that I would be sewing with blue and here it is.
Aren't you surprise it's floral?? Who would have thought? Lol.

Not much sewing happened this week, so the pink scrap basket is not finished.

Hopefully, it will be quilted this weekend and assembled. Then I'll take pictures of the pink scraps for the end of the month comparison photos. I'm almost scared to look at that one, lol.

Also this weekend, a lot of cutting will be happening. I'm leaving for a retreat on February 21st so I need to organize a few things.

Start of the BLUE month photo.

The blue baskets are overflowing.
It kept falling off, haha.

And then, the dark, the light and the ugly bags. (no, not really ugly.) They will follow me to the retreat in an attempt to deflate their egos. That's a mighty task. The one at the front has a hole. It kept puffing up when I flatten it out. It's not that full actually.

I'm itching to make my RSC blocks in blue but I have to finish pink first otherwise, it will never get done. I know me.

These were assembled as I put the crumb slab together for the pink basket.

I don't know what is happening on at your place, but I hope it is good. So much snow everywhere, and wildfire, and earthquakes, ... I hope you are well.

My cat is not affected by the cold, he doesn't care about the snow (he's part Main Coon), but the wind we had this week, stopped him in his track.

That's all I have for you today. Stay safe. 🧡

Bringing Out the Blues

Well, here we are in June or the blue month and I am still working with Pink. That is my life lately. In my defence, better be late than being a quitter, right? Lol.

So, Pink 9 patch ...

...and a 6.5 X 8.5 crumb block with 4X4 ones. I finished the crumb blocks Saturday morning.

The pink scraps from the beginning of May

to the end of May. I think the bags are smaller only because the scraps are nicely folded.

The bigger pieces are in the left bag. The other one holds bags with lighter pink, pink with other colours, orangy-pink, etc.

On to blue:

Oooooooooh! My Skittles are burnt!!!

Five bags of dark, light, bright, and aqua for this month. Not counting ...

two scrap baskets too. They are supposed to be one light blue basket and one dark blue but some swapping, trading and exchange has occurred during the years. I will concentrate my efforts on the bags.

Talking bags of scrap, I was gifted a scrap bag (again) during the Artisanat meeting. It has lots of pieces that got my brain working.

Do you know what pattern these are for? In the first picture, there are two sizes of triangles. The second picture shows very small pieces. I might just cut them up to 1.5" and be done with it instead of trying to figure out what they are for. Life is short after all.

There was also a lot of sewn pieces.

I will unstitch them during lunch at work so I can use them up. Lovely prints in there.

I will return to pink to finish the Double Tulips block which still looks like this. Sigh!

I am catching up on comments' replies too. I was so far behind it was shameful. Anywho!! That's all for now. See you next weekend. Meanwhile, enjoy some scrap sewing.
