Progress

What a wonderful thing. Especially when I'm the one doing it, haha.

After a fun afternoon with strings,

I made some progress on a green border ...

Followed by another green border!

Whoop Whoop! I am so happy! Look who's done!!

Field of Poppies (aka Good Fortune by Bonnie K. Hunter) is ready for quilting.  Um! I'm just noticing that last border is pretty wavy!

Doesn't look better up close. Okay so it isn't ready for quilting. I'll redo that last border (sigh!) but at least you know what it looks like. What do you think?

While I took pictures of my quilt, early this morning, someone came by to serenade me. It's a Cardinal bird. I SOOOO love cardinals. I just sat there and listen for a bit. Then he took off. Thank you for such a lovely moment. I appreciate it. And please come again, any time at all, soon.

So now that I am done with the greens, this place needs a good cleaning.

That is so much better. Awwhhhh! I think I haven't seen the top of this cabinet since the beginning of 365 challenge back in 2016.  Yikes!

Yes, my cutting table is a sewing cabinet. With no machine in it. But one is coming, eventually. Aunt Lucy is bringing me hers whenever we will be allowed to meet again.

These mats were finished and delivered ... on her porch.  Yes! Checked.

Oh yeah! I bet you want to know what I did with the strings, right?

Some got sewn together

different colours were used

and tossed aside for later.

I have to stay focus.

It took me a while

and some help from the Super Seam Ripper,

but I got what I wanted.

Hum! This will be a fun quilt, I think. I like where it is taking me. Maybe it's a quilt for me?  We'll see! :^D

Be "in" and stay home.

Quilting Over Sewing

Didn't sew much but did a lot of quilting this past week.

Field of Poppies got its first border. I am so happy that the corners are even in the sense that the light are next to the dark all the way around. I love how it looks too.

Plenty of teal, aqua and turquoise in this one.

Then I attached the quilting foot back on the machine and quilted my heart out. (not even, haha!)
The car seat mats were first to go. These will grace a co-worker's van. She asked for dark grey or black with yellow.

Some simple free hand design. To me, they are free motion practice pieces and I had a lot of fun with it. You can see my quilting on this picture. I used a navy blue thread as I couldn't see the black thread in my dark basement.

This is the back. Not sure what happened with the lighting here as it is actually a white piece of fabric. I might add some quilting in the black border ... maybe not.
They are ready for Slow Sunday Stitching as the binding is already attached.

Now that the navy blue thread has been removed from the machine, I can continue on this one. Only have a few more "petals" to do. I don't know what I will quilt in the green border so it might have to rest for a bit while I decide what I want.

And then I can start on the Ohio Star mini quilt, a.k.a. the Cécile's Star Quilt.
I know how or what to quilt on this one. What is stopping me is the backing. I have to look for something pretty.

And then, I'll switch foot on the machine again because I miss piecing. :^( Field of Poppies needs a second green border ... but that's for another post.

So far, we are surviving the empty shelves syndrome at the stores. None of us are coughing or have a fever. So far, so good.

At work, the Centre is closed. I am at home with my workload, working on my old computer in the basement. (Wish I had a laptop so I could move outside. Sigh.) I still have to work my eight hours and report daily. I don't know how long this will last because there is just so much I can do without my office and co-workers bringing in requests, data, papers, problems, shopping lists, etc.

Hopefully the sun will stick around. It's so nice to feel its energy again.

Enjoy your stash. There's no need to practice social distancing with it, so cuddle up.

Pondering

Ever so slowly, I am hand applique these little stars. They were my first attempt at Cécile and Béa Stars Sew-Along. They were demanding too much time to sew so I went for Plan B.
The yellow one is partly done. I have some difficulties with the points. I'm afraid to cut the fabric too short. It's a learning process and I like it.

These stars are my Plan B. They are sewn together and waiting their turn to be quilted.

I am working away on this project as it needs to be finished before the stars. I got a long piece of batting and attached both seat mats to it. It's fun as both are now quilted in the centre. Now working on the black section. I chose a navy thread because I was afraid of not being able to see a black thread on these fabrics. I'm doing this for free for a co-worker. They are my machine quilting practice pieces.

Pondering
I am very puzzled by the people's behavior.

I come from, and still live, in the country where we know that good things need time to grow; where we know hard times and bad seasons come to pass; where we know our neighbours and who's children are playing in the street.  We know that we can rely on neighbours when hard times hit.
These tiny little villages are growing steadily though as more and more city people come here to settle. They don't know our way of live. They listen more to the media then to common sense.
Poultry section
This is what my grocery store looked like yesterday morning. We always go grocery shopping on Saturday morning and it has never looked like a war zone. That scared me.
Beef section far right. Pork on the left.
It seems like pork is the least favourite.

My thoughts go out to those who already rely on coupons and rebate to put food on their tables. Even though my husband hasn't work a day since the beginning of December, we will manage as we know enough farmers to be able to feed my family directly from the producers if push comes to shove. I am blessed.

Yep, we ran out of toilette paper too. Even paper towels have disappeared. I guess it could be a good alternative. (not!)

Since I have nowhere to go I'll sit on my deck, soaking in the sun's rays and stitch away. Hope you do too.

Hope you are all blessed with good health and good neighbours.

It Takes Two

When my co-worker saw my car seat mats, she wanted some too ... or is that two?

I added a border as they were just a little short for her car seats. My plan is to start quilting these this weekend.

From the beginning of the year, I said I wouldn't "picked" a block for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year as I have enough to finish already. That was until I saw this cute block on Seriously... I think it needs stitches.  She does blocks for all kind of "National Day". Anywho! I fell in love with this one.

It's made with 1.5 inches strips. I wanted to see if bigger was better so I pulled out 2.5 pieces. (Why not 2 inches? I have absolutely no idea! And wine was even not involved in the equation ... yet. ;^))

I didn't bother to add the last border because it is now standing at 10.5". I don't have a lot of scraps that are big enough to make this block so it defies the purpose of the RSC.

Anywho! The design wall looks like this and I started nothing new. Hahaha.

Still working on the green border. Because I didn't pay a lot of attention which way I sew the 4-Patch together, I have a lot of unpicking to do. Lots of the 4 patch are spinning the wrong way or have the dark green in the wrong place.

Nevertheless, I managed to have two borders (the longest ones) ready for Field of Poppies. So progress was made, just slower than anticipated.

Enjoy!

Some "Ta-Dah!" To Share

First Ta-Dah!

A finished scrap basket. Yay! I squared the corners so the basket would stand by itself but didn't cut the excess because I wanted to keep the "Vive la France" wording. Vous comprenez que la France est très importante pour moi.

It's starting to look decent. :^D

Second Ta-Dah!

A finished quilt in flannel. This one is for my second son.
 A monster of a quilt (75X100 inches)

Lots of crumbs stars and Puss in the Corner.

Robots in the first border and gears in the corner for my wanna be Engineer son.

This is the one I made for my first son. (It looks like a picture of the finished quilt was never taken. One day, I'll take one of the three quilts together. ) He loves it.

On to the last flannel quilt. Yay! I love to play with flannel.

Now, here are some other little bits I did.

One block to see how it goes. It is inspired by Ellen at Little Jewel Quilts. Thank you Ellen! I've been cutting fabrics for this quilt for two years or so. I'll have to start making this quilt soon or else, I'll end up with two. :^D

This is a commission car seat cover. A co-worker saw the ones I have in my car and wanted some for her van. She has small children and said she would greatly appreciate something she can throw in the washing machine. Since she really likes this pattern I've suggested (inspired by The Joyful Quilter. Thank you Joyful!) I'll be making a second one this weekend.

On to sewing up some frankenbatten to make another basket in the colour of March for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Thank you, Angela, for the fun challenge.

Enjoy!

Ready? Set. Quilt!

The new seat mats are taking shape.

It looks so good with its dark frame.

Then the basting started.

Not many pins left.

But today is too sunshiny nice of a day to be in the basement. So out the door I go. Of course, I'll bring something to do with me.

I tagged this project. One side is completely done (Yay!) and I am now closing the front to the back. I am trying to match her closing stitches.

Don't know if you can see her stitches here. It's very crude whip-stitches. The picture was taken with my phone as I still don't have my camera. Sigh! It is gone back to the factory to see the good Canon Doctor. I miss it.

Meanwhile, let's have some fun with these ladies;

Cynthia for Oh Scraps!

Kathy for Slow Sunday Stitching.

I'll be there.

Until next time ....

My new toy!

I mentioned in a previous post that one of the reason that keeps me away from my sewing room is my new toy.

Well, I'll tell you what I bought.

Hummingbird's Egg. Internet photo.

It's not something you buy very often. Well, at least not in this household.

Even my unshaven darling loves my new toy.

Care to guess?

Ah! No! I didn't get a loom. Good grief, I have enough craft supplies as it is.

I don't want to embark onto another one.

Don't get me wrong, I still love to weave and I still go to the craft club to enjoy an hour or so on the loom. But I didn't get a loom.

AND I promised Mangofeet I wouldn't show any weaved project on this post so ... carry on!

Have you guessed it yet?

My new toy is a new-to-me thing as I can't afford a brand new one. So, did you found what it is?

If you say ...

Oh! I am such a drama Queen! hehehe!

Did you say .....

Keep strolling down ...

This must be my longest post yet, lol.

Oh I'm getting there.

Are you?

 Honk! Honk!

Did you say a car? You are right!! But I have no prize for you, sorry!

Not any kind of car.

It's an electric car. No emission, no noise!  Everything, well most everything is touch screen kind of thing. Only two knobs. It's so cool.

I want to make some seat "mats" or whatever those are called because the seats are such a light grey. While cleaning my sewing room I found two blocks from a few years back.

I made these extra blocks when I did a quilt for MIL and FIL. (Picture of that quilt is higher up in this post.) These blocks were to be pillow shams. Obviously, I never made the shams so how about using these for the seat mats?

I can framed it with the dark blue fabric and it would be big enough. Hmmm! I like that idea.

I have another new toy. It's a brand new one too. No, it's not a kitten (I wish I'd be so lucky!) I can't show you this new toy because I am using it to take the pictures. I have a cellular phone. Yes, me!! A cell!! I didn't want one but my dearest bearded man got me one. Now he's texting me smileys and kissy faces every day. Awhhh! I can't complain about that.

Until next time ...

Zoom, zoom.  :^D
