Slowly Getting Into Pink

Well, I'm finally playing with Pink. Not many days left before the end of the month but here it is.

The yellow scraps weren't used as much as I had planned. Not much difference between the first picture (beginning of the month) and the second picture (end of the month).

I separated the "gold" yellow from the rest, the bag on top on the right. On the left are the yellows with other colours that I wanted to turn into 9 patches. Oh well! At the front, unfinished crumb blocks.

In my defence, Yellow does not have a scrap basket. The bigger scraps are also in these bags compared to other colours which have a basket to store the larger pieces. Anywho!

The 9-patch blocks that were cut and waiting by the sewing machine to be sewed are done.
A friend gave me a little bag of scraps and those blues were too nice not to play with. Hehehe.

Decluttering with Joy ( 100 Days 100 Things Decluttered )

I spent some time trying out summer outfits that no longer fit. So blouses and capri pants were sent to the second-hand store. Boy! That store must love me lately.
I had kept a faux leather bag thinking my son could use it as he started college. It is the perfect size for a laptop. He prefers to keep his laptop in his backpack. Goodbye, blue bag sporting my "ex" job union logo.

Please answer this: How come the scraps multiply when no one's looking, but the stitches on a quilt never change?
I didn't work on my hand-quilting project for over a month and it didn't help itself either. The injustice is unbearable!! Lol.

So where am I at?

This is the pink scrap I have, and no scrap basket either. There are only small pieces in there. Nothing was big enough for the Double Halo Star block, so I used a pink yardage.

The star for the Double Halo block is completed. It's a start...

Also started are two tulip blocks. A little yellow crumb block was used as the leader ender while sewing these parts. (While looking at this picture, a squirrel sneaked in and whispered something in my ear. OMG! Another quilt to make!)

My Pink Rainbow UFO Challenge didn't even make it out of the drawer. These challenges aren't doing so well this year. Pictures of Dreaming in Dutch - Rainbow UFO Challenge for May as a reminder of what it looks like.

The pink tulips were done in January 2021.

All the blocks were made but I can't locate a picture will all of them. This is the best I have. Sorry.

This past week, we had a fright when we saw that cloud coming towards us on Wednesday.

I stared at it for a few seconds to make sure it wasn't spinning. We usually don't have twisters in Canada, but then again, the weather is so unpredictable nowadays. Luckily, there were minimal winds but lots of heavy rain. No damage. Just a good fright.

I spotted these sweet faces behind my place on Friday morning.

So, I think that's all I have. I'll try to be more productive but work is still zapping a lot of my energy. I like it though.

I hope you too are enjoying what you're doing.

An Orange Quilt

I had fun with orange fabrics, maybe a little too much fun.

NOT!

There's no such thing as having too much fun! Too much orange on the other hand could become a problem.

Four more Jericho Wall blocks were done this week. I now have 6 orange JW blocks with the two done the week before.
Yep! I just had to have dots! One orange needed to be pieced in order to be big enough. It happens when one plays with scraps.

Two more blocks are cut and waiting by the sewing machine to be set up and sewn.

Two more could be cut from these fabrics as I thought of making rust ones too. I like the colour rust.

If I sew all these, the total of orange-y blocks will be 10! WHAAATT??

So I quit.

No more orange for Jericho! After all, it's not an orange quilt but a rainbow quilt, right?

So worked on the crumb Chaser blocks and got two done.

I showed this little bit of crumb a few weeks ago. Can you spot it in the above picture?

And as usual, the 9-Patch picture. I got a little bit of light blue in.

What's with the block on the right, you ask? Well, it can't be all work and no play, right? Haha.

Talking about playing, we got some unexpected visitors this week. (photos taken through the patio door)

Wild turkeys visited us last winter and returned this week to show us their lovely brood.

My cat thought he could get a little one since the mothers are too big for him. He quickly learned that mothers don't let their guard down one iota of a second.

The babies are also very quick on their long legs. It was fun to watch. No birds were harmed and the cat is fine too. Well, maybe he got a little bruise on his ego. Haha.

That's all for me. Have a great long weekend.

Life's Surprises

Not all of life's surprises are nice. I have my share of hard time like we all do, but I did get a few nice one since I last blogged.

My brother came over to visit the family. He lives in Alberta, Canada. We don't see each other much. It was SOOOOOOOOO nice to see him again.

At work, the girl who works with me is on maternity leave since the end of January. They have finally found a replacement. Whoop! I might get home less tired now and have some energy left to sew something. :^D

Another surprise I got was this huge bag full of scraps! Goodness gracious! How generous some people are! It was mostly from Anne, but Lucie and Carole also pitched in. I was so thrilled, I was giddy, like a little child.

It came from the ladies I used to sew with on Wednesday. I was so touched that they still collect their scraps for me. Wait! Did I say scraps? These are huge scraps. Check it out.

Stacks of two inches tall. The white triangles are 6 inches on the short end! Anne has the most beautiful cotton. Don't know where she gets it from but it's really top quality. And she even gave me her rejects from her New York Beauty quilt. One of them is hanging on the bag in the first picture.
These are all strings ready to be used. Talking about strings, while I was puttering around, trying to find room to store the goodies, I found a placemat I'd started a long time ago when Julie from Texas had sent me a box full of strings.
I finished the right hand side of it and I'm sure I can find something in those strings to make a binder out of. (Thanks, Julie, for all the lovely strings!)

Some of Anne's work.

I found a baggy of green and gold triangles. At the bottom of the shoe box, there was more green and gold triangles.
Then, I spotted this. Oh !

Is Anne making Bonnie's Good Fortune too? I'll have to ask her. Mine is very slowly coming along.

Some blue, some green, some blue-green.
There was also lots of beautiful dark blue in the gift bag. Guess where these will end up? Yes, in my 365 challenge. Whoop!

Like I said, some aren't scraps but yardage, like this bird fabric and the beautiful lime and brown fabric in the third picture that was given by Carole.
Thank you so much ladies. You are such wonderful people. ♥

Needless to say that I spent a lot of time just admiring and petting and trying to store all these goodies somewhere.
There was this little bit of Aqua with a cute little fox on it. I just had to make something out of it right away. It became a little bookmark and it is with me everyday.

Talking about wild life, I had another nice surprise this morning.

On the other side of the racing track behind my yard, I spotted a calf. I thought who has a calf on the loose, has there is no livestock farms near by. I kept looking at it and then it hit me. It has no tail!

It's a calf alright but of the MOOSE kind. And it has a white spot on its back and on its butt. So cute! Sorry for the grainy pictures, but it was raining hard and I'm about 300 feet from it. It was happily chewing on the bark. I'm happy to see it has survived the winter.

Bye, bye baby moose. You can come back anytime you want. Take care! ♥

Okay! Back to quilting. Still quilting the flannel monster. I do one or two passes every other night. My shoulders appreciate the break.

I also used the dark blues from Anne's gift to make Mother's Fancy, September 20th.
It has 65 pieces and measures 6.5 inches. The 9-Patch blocks are 2 inches unfinished. I love this one.

And that's it for now. Sorry, it turned out to be a much longer post than I intended.

Since it will rain all weekend long, I'll be in my sewing room if you are looking for me.

;^)
