The End of the Orange Brick Road

It was a fun month playing with orange, but all fun things come to an end. I did managed to sew ...

 one more orange Stained Glass block accompanied by one 18 Bricks block . . . 

and two not-yet-trimmed 8.5 X 6.5 crumb blocks (mindless sewing). Some prints look peachy-pink in this picture but they're staying. 

Again, the colours aren't true in the picture below. We have rain and thunderstorms today. It's a dark but cool day. 

Only two April Fool blocks were done. Six are MIA.

In my own defense, the month is not officially over, so I still have a bit of time. 

June is my birth month and I spoiled myself this year. 

First I got a new sewing chair. 

It's mint green (because I didn't want it white, or black and they didn't have it in orange. Ugh!). I should have taken a picture of my old chair. It was part of my foster-mother's kitchen set back in the 70's. It was the last surviving one from a set of six. We got our money out of that one, lol. 

Then I spoiled myself again. I bought a pergola.

We will be able to enjoy our deck any time of the day. We should have bought this a long time ago.  If the rain could stop, we would finish setting it up. More photos to come with me enjoy it. :^D 

Baby Quilt Kits

And I cut, and cut, and cut, and cut some more. I know some of you suggested that I keep the quilt kit patterns to simple ones. I understand the logic behind this but I also know that these ladies have been sewing long before I started quilting. So, my logic is if I can make these patterns, so can they. ;^) 

I drew this pattern (I call it Stack) inspired by a photo seen on Quarter Inch Caper blog. Since my scraps don't have very big pieces (especially that this one needs 3 big pieces and 6 more pieces of the same print), I decided to add some white pieces. It's perfect for my scraps now. 

Instructions:

For the six different prints or colours, cut 6 rectangles of 6.5 X 2.5 and 12 rectangles of 3.5 X 2.5 

Then cut 12 white rectangles of 3.5 X 2.5, for each colour. It should finish at 36" square. It is different yet very easy. 

I also cut some fabric for the one I call I Spy Black N White. 

It's from Pinterest and I can't find the maker. (I was sure it was from Treadlestitches but nope.) If you know who did this, please let me know so I can give her credit. 

Instructions:

Cut 35 squares at 6", only one square per print. Cut 35 white squares at 3.25 and the same for the black blocks. It does make a fast and easy I Spy quilt. (Makes sure that the black squares are facing each other.) 

I kitted two like this. The black squares are still to be cut for both kits. My blocks aren't as bright and happy as the prints in the picture but it will be good enough for a donation quilt. 

I have more patterns to write and cut. Since Canada Day is on Tuesday (day off), I'll be working on at least one more pattern. 

I've emptied a scrap bag then I thought about my multicoloured scrap basket AFTER I finished cutting 70 different prints for the quilt above!! Ugh!  

Let's see how many prints I can get out of this one. 

And, of course, my forever to-go block done with pink and brown.

They were SHIBs (Squirrel Hiding in Bags) that wouldn't stop nagging me but they turned out so cute. Pink and Brown look so good together. Ohhhh! You know what? I could cut a kit in pink and brown . . . OH! and I love brown and blue together too . . . . Oh! MY! BLT Sandwich! I need more TIME! 🤪 Lol.

Long Weekend Sewing Report

It was so wonderful! Can I have another one please? Even the thunderstorms didn't bother me. 

This is a treasure I found in the gifted bags. It's only 28.5" so borders or something will be added at some point. But not now. I'm having too much fun elsewhere. 

Free binding was also found in the bags. The blue one is 154" long and the solid caramel one is 175". Wow!  

This is what the living room corner looks like still. I kind of lost steam at one point. DH asked me when will all of this disappear from the room. That's a good hint that he's losing patience. It's my top priority this weekend. 

But did I sew? Yes, I did. So many goodies came out of those bags. Let's see. 

One more green Stained Glass block and ... 

another one in the work. The prints are obviously from a collection (except for the first on the left) and they were cut on the bias. I decided to sew them together before they go wonky on me. 

Now with the black all around. I'm not impressed. I didn't trim it yet as I think they won't play well with the others. What do you see? The colours are truer in the first picture. 

I also worked on these little blocks. 

Shallow Pond (a.k.a. County Clare by Bonnie K. Hunter) has been a nice interruption in my regular program. 

I like it. It's a cute block, it's blue and green which I love, but (you knew a but was coming, right?) I don't need another leader-ender in this busy sewing room. 

I finished the last blocks needed to reach 25. Over the long weekend this happened. 

Shallow Pond is a baby quilt. I'm moving on with other projects that can easily become my leader-ender, like the crumb triangles for Stained Glass, or the rail fence blocks for 9 Patch Path, or Bonus Points, or ... you get the picture. 

It is 30.5" squares at the moment. Border? Yes because it looks very plain like this. I'm thinking birds. Yes, birds. Ponds always have birds, right?  

A little oops! Two blocks of the same fabric side by side but I'm not changing it. 

Since Shallow Pond is "done", I can start another project, right? 

Remember Puss in the Corner? So many fabric are lining up for this project, it's overwhelming. But this one came together. 

What can I say? It's green, okay, granted there are snowmen too but on GREEN. The red snowflake was in the same gifted bag so, what's a girl to do? 

This one is gorgeous in my eyes but it's a tough one to please. 

The centre print and the solid rust were together. I love it. I can't match the dusty baby blue from the centre and I'm auditioning dozens of fabric from all range of colours. This one is more seafoam then blue but it might work. 

Next. 

There's little yellow/gold flowers in the print and this gold fabric pulls them out ... I think. Or is it overbearing? 

I even tried some browns. I like this one. It's not demanding at all. What do you think? Maybe I should continue searching? 

They are so much fun. I have more centres sitting on the sideline. 

EDITED: The search is over. 

All the blue fabric were removed from the bags. I dug into the pile in the hope that she had something that matches. She did! I love it! Next, please. 

Table Scrap Challenge, hosted by the lovely Joy, was design and started. It will have many greens as the theme for this month is "Fresh Cut Grass".  

Mine started with the tree print. More on that in another post. There's plenty of time for you to join us. 

My official leader-ender this month is 18 Bars and Bonus Points blocks. 

The red one needs a few more stitches. They are made with little bit of 1.5 X 2.5". 

New Sewing Room Resolution! 

With all the fabric coming into my world, I had some long discussion with myself, lots of brainstorming, this past week. A plan to reach accomplishment is needed. I came up with this.  

 

First, I put up my cutting instruction on the clothesline. Literally. 

In an attempt to be more productive, I want to see what I need for each project when I am cutting fabric. I start a lot of projects; I also kit some that are stored. I keep forgetting about the kits, like Crossroad to Jericho, and Ladies Wreath, and Jewel Box. Anywho! Having the measurements front and centre on my design wall will help ... I hope.  

Second, I've detailed my week. 

I want to do this, and finish that, and that WIP, and organize this corner; so many other things demand my time I just end up all over the place (so easy for an ADHD person). So, I thought if I know what I'm going to do (during the week nights) I might not waste 20 minutes pondering what I want to do or what needs to be done. 

Here goes: 

Monday, I will cut fabric (check the clothesline) AND clean the cutting table. 

Tuesday, I will take care of people, friends, (meetings are usually on this day). If it's a week with no meeting, organize things for the next meeting. 

Wednesday, I will sew or quilt (or pin for quilting) (need to fix the problem with the Janome) or organize backs or/and binding. 

Thursday, I will hand quilt (because I seem to never find the time to do this anymore). 

Friday, I will blog and sew (RSC blocks first and whatever after. Do not start another one). 

The weekends are all about cutting and sewing, and shopping, and cooking, and cleaning, and all the boring stuff like that, lol. 

Even if I work for only 30 minutes/evening, I might be able to accomplish more this way. Will it work? Time will tell. 

Okay, now, enough of this blah blah. Let's get to work ... I mean sew.

Pink is not one of my favourite colour so I'm starting to have enough of Pink.

I'm not exactly in love with the way I sew the border on this one. The corners are bothering me but then again, it's a donation. I won't see it ever again once it's done. They both need batting scraps and a backing, and to the "to be quilted" pile they will go. 

Also in the big scrap bag from 2 weeks ago, there is this Cat Elves fabric. It has glitters! 

I have a mind to use it as the backing for the crooked table runner from my last post. The colours don't match but it would be two for one, full of glitters. 😃

Fiona from BubzRugz told me she loves when I get scraps bags. She said: "it's like we all get to play with them!" (And I thought it was boring you.) Well then, here's one more from the big bag. 

Found some hexies but one is MIA. 😕 (They aren't cut perfectly but still workable.) I hope to find it so I can do something with them. Or a little piece of the print would be good too. No, I'm not done looking through all those bags. (so many) As you can see in the picture, this print is also glittery. I think I jinxed myself when I called my December post "It's Glitter Season". 😄

With all these scraps recently added to the Pink bags (and all the other colours), I'm afraid my comparison photos, at the end of the month, will not show bags with slimmer figures. I'll try to use (cut) some more this week again. Sigh! Stay tuned.

It's a Flimsy!

Double Halo is finally a flimsy and I couldn't wait to share it with you. 

I rush to sew the skinny sashing and haste makes waste. The sashing did not align properly. 

And not just once but all of them. Argh! 

An emergency call was sent to the Super Seam Ripper and eventually, it got done properly before the long weekend was over.

Oh, My! The aqua block and the blue block are basically all the same colour. And the purple one is nothing but purple. Let's try in a sunny spot. 

Yes, that's better. I love it so much. (The quilt is bumpy because the grass is long ... and wet.) 

The centre star doesn't have the same fabric as the stars, only the same colour. (The square in a square uses a piece of the M&M millennium print, yes. Haha.) Click on the picture to zoom in. 

The first block I did was the red star and I didn't calculate how big a scrap I needed to make this block. I just wing it as I usually do. Well, yes, I ran out of red. Most of the readers said they couldn't see the difference so, here it is. 

That prompted me to use other fabrics to make the middle star. 

I'll have to check the orange bottom corner. It looks funny in all the pictures. Oh! but I love this quilt.
