My life took a left turn. My suggestion to the Artisanat committee to make baby quilt kits was accepted and I now have a second full time job, lol.
Reorganize the sewing room in function of size instead of colours. 😵
I need some time to sew too because my shoulders can't handle the cutting anymore today.
On the slim side but otherwise he looked healthy. And so friendly, he loves to be pet but don't try to pick him up. He's a feral cat after all.

This lovely print was the start of the first kit |
When the pattern calls for 3.5", let's say, I have to go through all the colours to find the right scraps. That's nonsense. Having all the 3.5" in one spot will be more productive.

Kit #1: 9-Patch blocks with alternate block of Humming bird. MIA: flannel backing. Pattern is written. |
It looks like my summer will be happening in the sewing room. Cut, cut, and cut some more trying to move all the scrap that comes in every week. Your prayers are welcomed. Lol.

Sewing little squares as leader-enders. As I snapped the picture, Mr. 9-Patch decided to walk away, haha.
I thought of having a few different patterns for the kits with different levels of difficulty so we wouldn't be doing the same old easy pattern all the time.
Last weekend, we had a little visit from the one we call Rascal.

That's all I have for now. Hope all is well with you and that you can enjoy some fabric therapy.
;^)
P.S. I will reply to your comments. It's Real Estate Season at the office and I come home too tired to open the computer. But I will do it this weekend. 💖
Visiting my stitching sisters for more inspiration.

Fast and easy is the best focus for charity quilting, Chantal. Concentrate on just a few pattern options at a time... The easiest ones to cut, kit, AND sew! You and your members will thank you. Good thinking on the stash reorganization! My multi-level system functions the way you described. I have small scraps by color, strips by width, and large chunks or squares in big baskets sorted into measurement ranges. Definitely makes it easier to find what I need for projects!
I've got scraps sorted both ways, by color and by size and, neither one entirely solves the problem of finding the scraps you need. Anyone in your group have an Accucut machine who could help you with the cutting. I think it's a lot to expect you to make all the kits yourself.

I applaud you for making kits for others to sew. . .that is a great way to use some and maybe a lot of scraps that find their way to you! The best part about busy seasons at work is that they pass. I hope this last week was the peak of the season so you won't be so exhausted at the end of the day!
Oh my, good luck with all that cutting, Chantal. I remember when I suggested doing the Zipper quilts for our local Quilts for Kids group and they asked me to cut the kits for the class. Luckily, I had a 2” square Accuquilt die to do all the solids and that really “eased the pain”. The rest was just cutting strips (not too bad), writing up the pattern (easy) and packaging it all up. It took the better part of a month, with other sewing interspersed to keep my sanity, but it worked. If I ever do that again, it’ll be a pattern with fewer pieces and one that matches my dies better! Good luck!
That is definitely a big job that you have set out to do, Chantal, with making all those kits! Sounds like you do have a great idea for making it more streamlined. Love those Flying Home blocks - they're going to make a great quilt design! Hope you have a relaxing weekend before the busy work week!
Prayers to you for the cutting. Like you, my body can only take so much cutting at a time, then I have to stop. But slow & steady wins the race, right? And it sounds like your organizing brainstorm will really help with the kits.
I do hope your quilt kit endeavours run more smoothly now. Are you going to adopt that pretty boy kitten?
I think when you are making up kits it is quicker to make up several the same at one time! Probably not helpful but just sayin! Your orange blocks are gorgeous - as to be expected 😂. Stay sane. xx
Tu as raison, l'atelier de couture doit être opérationnel avant tout, et ranger les chutes par taille a du sens. C'est du travail, toutes ces préparations ! Bon courage, mais aussi bon amusement ! Bises
Well done you... how many kits will you need to make up? Would you like to come and run our charity section at quilt club - we need someone with excellent organisation skills (not that the present person is doing a bad job) Yes, don't forget to make time for yourself

Congratulations on your "new job"! Lol! It's amazing how fast and how much we get suckered into when volunteering, isn't it? Love your Flying Home block and it sure looks fantastic in RSC Orange.
What ever system you have, there are times you need it the other way. I sort scraps by size. That means that when I'm looking for a lot of the same color I frequently cut from yardage which then generates more scraps! The 3-yard quilt series could give you some good patterns for kits.
I never thought about organizing my fabric by scrap size. That's a fantastic idea.
ohhh quilting room reorg!! you will find some fun things I am sure!! I love having bins of strip sizes - once a year I got thru and ziploc bag some of them by color, in their size bin - that helps for fast projects!! Thanks for linking to FONF!!! have a great one!
Oh, you are such a sweet lady to cut kits for quilts. When I get scraps I take my little ruler and measure the width of smaller pieces and sort those by scrap width. Then I usually have a block or two going by scrap width. Anything larger than six inch square and less than FQ is considered a scrap chunk and I sort those by color. It took many years to figure out what worked best for me! I applaud you for being able to manage a "second job". We have lots of feral (I call them "free range") kitties around here. I put out a bowl of food for them every morning but bring it in in the afternoon so other critters don't eat it. Most like to be petted and are friendly.
