Helene gave me lots of flannelette (see this post) along with receiving blankets she had made by zigzagging the folded edges of the fabric …
… I decided to undo one. I want to use it for the backing of this top.
It's not a perfect match but it is much better than what I could come up with from my stash. Bonus, it is big enough so no pieced-backing for this one. So, un-stitching happened.
While I put my things from the retreat back in the sewing room, I found a mysterious (read forgot I had) box. Old string blocks were hiding in there.
Ta-dah! It is now a top and one box is in the recycling bin. Whoop Whoop for decluttering. Thanks, Joy, for putting me back on track. 😊
March is called Yellow this year. These are my yellow bags.
One bag is yellow with lively colours, one I call "gold", and the regular yellow is the biggest one. That's all. No scrap basket for this colour ... yet. Two FQs were found in a gifted bag. I added these to the "big" yellow scraps pile.
Carole will come by today with 2 more bags of fabric. I'll try to hunt the yellow out of them. Will see how that goes.
Like I said, not very productive but some forward motion was accomplished. So, YAY for that.
Hope you are well and sew happily.
Have a great week. Enjoy!

I will visit these talented ladies over the weekend. Hope to catch you there.

Unstitching is productive if it's someone else's work. Unstitching is unproductive if it's your own work! Or something like that, lol!
I hope your back is on the mend and yes, unstitching is progress! Sometimes projects need to finish smaller than was anticipated. Finished is always better than laying about waiting! I do love your string blocks!!!
Unstitching had better count for productive otherwise we all have too many unproductive hours 😂
What fun string blocks. I have used dry light weight nonfusible interfacing for string blocks before. No bulk and no papers to remove.
That blanket looks perfect for backing your quilt and the string blocks have make a great little top, very lively. xx
Very cute baby quilt, and I love the string blocks! It seems to me you got a lot accomplished, a backing ready and a string top! Nice work!
So sorry your back is hurting but good for finding something you can do... and get a non pieced backing to boot! Nice find... I have some missing flowering snowball parts cut out that I am unable to find. I've been searching but I guess I really need to do a big organize to find them.
The white centers of the string blocks pull them together nicely. Most of the string blocks I've made (probably a couple thousand over 15 yrs) have been on fabric foundations.
Prep work (unstitching, sorting, etc) can be very time consuming and feel unproductive. Of course, once you are back at the machine it is easy to see how very productive it is.
Good for you. I would have done the same thing with that receiving blanket. Flannel is flannel and you use up what you have.
I do hope your back is feeling better. My back plays up from time to time and makes me feel about 90!
So sorry that your back is bothering you, Chantal. Sometimes, doing what we can instead of what we want is the best we can do! That string quilt is a beauty! I made string blocks on a cloth foundation one time and I ended up not liking it either. Have fun with your yellow scraps this week!
Your top looks so great, the way it shines on the clothesline in the sun... brilliantly done. I like it very much.
I used to do a lot of felting and knitting. Now I sew... May spring come to you quickly. Best wishes from Viola
p.s. have fun playing with yellow this month
Oh yes - unstitching is very productive when it's needed. I hope your back gets better soon. That string quilt turned out beautifully and will be loved. It's so bright and happy!
Sorting is a production of it's own I think... we need to do it before we can make stuff! The stripey blocks quilt is great, I used sheeting once like that and it ended up quite heavy...

Défaire est peut-être moins amusant mais si ça permet d'utiliser différemment et mieux un morceau, alors oui ça vaut le coup ! Ton petit top est superbe, est-ce que tu vas le quilter malgré les épaisseurs ?
