A Revelation

(Wouldn't that be a great fabric print?)

I'm still rethinking my sewing room. I got more milk crates so the board is now as high as my elbow. It is a little too high, but I'm managing. (I put bundles on it to hid the horrible brown stains. Yuk!)

For the last 2 weeks, I've been finishing work later due to my co-worker being on vacation. One night, I came home and DH had a surprise for me.

A wooden box! The board is now higher than when it had legs but lower than with the milk crates. It's at the perfect height for me. What a sweet man. 💓

As I was working on the sewing room reorganization, I had a brain fart.

Call it a "New Year's resolution", call it a "sewing room rule", call it "Darn, why didn't I think of that?" but I decided to declare

the ironing board for ironing ONLY!

Flabbergasting, isn't it?

The rule is "If something does NOT need to be ironed, it can NOT "rest" or "sit" on the ironing board." No more piles of fabric for a future projects, or fabric that needs to be cut, or put away, or boxes of PhD, etc. I have to be firm with myself and diligent. It's so nice to have a clean board that I think I can pull this one through the entire year. 🤞

You can see some of the binding on the ironing board's photos above and here's more that are done. The smallest binding is 175" long; the biggest ones will be cut to the needed size. Three need folding and ironing.

I'm also sewing some Hollow 9 as leader-ender while doing the bindings.

Oh, look! I almost have a double 9-Patch in this picture. 😊 I got my 2" square tub on the kitchen counter so I can "kit" some little Hollow 9 while the soup boils over simmers.

All those little piles on the right of the tub are blue Hollow 9 but I'm sure I can find more green ones in there.

That's all I have, friends. Hope all is well with you. Have a great week, everyone. ;^)

Imagine, an empty ironing board except when ironing!!? Where will I pin borders onto the flimsy, set my blocks on the only surface next to the design wall, or, or ... Never going to happen around here, there are precious few horizontal surfaces in this little house that aren't already occupied! It's a great idea though!

Ironing boards are just too convenient for storing stuff aren't they? WIPS certainly seem to land there in my room...
I like how your Hollow 9-patches are coming along...really nice work...

I so like that your ironing board has storage underneath it, Chantal! That's great that your hubby figured out the solution to making it the right height, too. Glad you're getting some sewing time in!

I may borrow your New Year’s Resolution to keep the ironing board clear of everything except what needs to be ironed. (Brilliant indeed!) Well, wait. I keep my iron there too, LOL, and my spray bottle of homemade starch. I’ve just started using a piece of fabric as a leader and ender when I sew to prevent the fabric from going down into the throat plate. My Bernina 570 is particularly notorious for that. (Or maybe it’s user error?). Regardless, once I feel I’m firmly in the habit of doing that, I’ll progress to leaders and enders. Last time I tried that, several years ago, I kept getting confused. Baby steps!

Really?? Only ironing on the ironing board. . .what a concept! I hope it works out for you! What is the story of the wooden box? Yes, your hubby is one sweet man. . .also one wise man. . .happy wife/happy life must be his mantra!

I had to click on your link from Soscrappy because of the iron board picture, yes that would make great fabric. Good organizing of scraps and some nice green blocks adding up. Best of luck with keeping the iron board free.

Good to hear you are finding a bit of time to craft while doing all the extra hours and well done Hubby for sorting your ironing board. Perhaps he will do the ironing for you?????? (mine won't)

Well that box looks just perfect - I am sure it isn't still empty! xx

Your box of squares looks very neat and tidy…mine are more jumbled together. Nice hollow nines.

My ironing board usually stays pretty clear since I have to move it everytime I sit down to sew. My problem area (besides the entire room) is the cutting table. I haven't been sewing much because I'm in the middle of cataract surgeries and my vision is very wonky. I have been sorting through fabric, pulling out large scrap pieces to donate and cutting down scraps I want to keep.
We're snowy and cold here (as I'm sure you are). More below 0 (F) temps then we've seen in over 10 years.

A clever solution, and working with what you have to make that ironing board the right height. I'm also guilty of using the ironing board to stack things. Right now there are 2 design board with block parts laying on top of a project box - sitting on the narrow end of my ironing board. Leaves just enough room to iron a block. LOL

Redoing a sewing room is not always easy to find the 'perfect' solution. The wooden box added for the ironing board is a great idea! Glad it works for you. Pretty Hollow-9 blocks.

I am also doing some sorting and organizing. I too hope I can keep it done further into the year.

Ta planche à repasser est parfaite ! La nouvelle caisse va bien et le plus important c'est qu'elle soit à la bonne hauteur maintenant. Jolis petits blocs ! Bises
