Climbing up the wall

gets me nowhere!!

HELP!! I can't create anymore! There is too many distractions, too many fabrics, too many plans!
(Deep breath girl, and smile.  You can do this.)

I need to put away some things or finish something because this is overwhelming me. I don't know how some of you can work on many projects at once.  I definitively don't have what it takes to do it. Have a look.

Spread on the floor is an auditioning session for the next colour/fabric of the hexagon quilt.

Next to it, is this scrappy blocks quilt that is also asking for eligible fabric auditions for the four missing blocks and it baffles me.  It's going in the wrong direction a.k.a. I don't drive off road!!

The last bit of floor is taken by the crumb quilt (which I did find a good name for it at 3 o'clock in the morning and since I didn't write it down, I don't remember it anymore so it is still called the crumb quilt).  I need to finish the pieced borders for this one. Only three sides to go :)

And this is how my sewing room greeted me this morning. Who can sew with a desk like that in a room like this?  I get so distracted and waste so much time just shuffling things around, pulling out fabrics and scattering them all over just to put them back in and then I can't find them anymore for the auditions of the other quilt and the blocks and ... This is crazy!!

And the slow stitching corner looks like this. Not any better!  I know, I know, I need to finish Blooming Stars and deliver that one to my in-laws but I didn't have much time to sew this week. The pinwheel quilt in the background, acts as a cover up on Take 21 quilt that I am hand quilting. I need to take it all apart and redo the pinwheel one.  But REALLY not now.

I think I will just stuff ... NO! I WILL stuff something out of sight and deal with one or two projects' preps until they are done. After, I will get another one out and play with it for a little while. I need some elbow room in my sewing room and in my head.  Too many quilts, too little time is sooooo true!!

I will sit and sew the binding on.  I am half way there. I will also enjoy reading the links on Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching and I hope you will too.

Until next time .... SM;^)LE ... it alleviates the burden.

I have gone thru the same feelings. I did exactly what you are about to do, stuff away and finish some things up. Three years later and I am still finishing up, but it such a great feeling with every finish. Finishing is a much better feeling to me now than starting. I still like to work on a couple of projects at a time, just for a change of pace. I usually have a hand quilting and applique project going. I am in a challenge and I have only allowed myself to piece four blocks a month. Life is good!

Well at least you had the gumption to get into your sewing room! When I get overwhelmed, I shut the door and avoid the place. Just one thing at a time, finish binding the quilt and move on from there. You can do it!

Good luck! I used to be strictly a one project at a time quilter. I'm starting to piece together more quilts, but I'm being very, very careful to make sure that I remember that they're for the future ... once I get my Chevron quilt quilted, I'll start on the Log Cabin quilt I'm going to piece together at retreat. Then I need to make a quilt for my other grandson. Then I'll get back to the blocks I've got done for a quilt for our bed and then I'll work on either the Nantucket or Pineapple quilts that I've got fabric kitted up for. I have made a list so I don't get myself off track ... it's hard for me to stay focused because once I've got the blocks done, I'm anxious to get started on quilting. Since I hand quilt all my quilts, I know full well that I'm talking about a year or more when I'm talking about all these quilts. :-o

Breathe, smile and put away some of your projects. I find when I get overwhelmed like this I look around and decide either what has to be done asap and/or what I really want to work on. Everything else gets packed up neatly and put away. Now I have a clean area and better outlook. I also know that when I decide to go back to a project everything I need for it is packaged together. Hope you can focus. I am looking forward to seeing your finishes.

I smiled the whole time I was reading your post today :)
I know exactly how you feel!
Some relaxing slow stitching should help to calm the nerves!

I hear ya. I also have too many projects that I am so overwhelmed that I haven't been working on any of them. My sewing area could use a good straightening.

I think we have all been there or are there. I am doing a task link with Kathi each month and just making a list of a few things I want to get done. It is helping me stay focused to get something done or progress made. Look around, decide what you feel like working on and put the others in a drawer with notes and no guilt. It will wait until you get back to it.

I understand your feelings! For me the best to relax is hand-binding and forget about the rest!
