Not Talking Politics Here But

I went with Blue.

Blue Shoo that is.

Since there were only 3 blocks missing to finish this one, I pulled some blue out and whipped up the last blocks. Sorry but I didn't take a picture of the last three. The first photo is the layout, trying to distribute the dark and light in a pleasing way.

And a "Ta-Dah" moment.
I'm really happy with this little "side" project. It is a SHIB no more. 😁

On to RED :

In an attempt to use up the multi-coloured prints, I did these two blocks with tomatoes and flowers. Befitting that the last red geese block flies over a field of something too.

How about strawberries?

Looking good.

I need to finish the red April Fool blocks. I believe I need 6 more.

Decluttering: following Joy's lead in this endeavor, from The Joyful Quilter.

I "cleaned" a bottle of wine. Does that count? Lol.

I got rid of boxes and boxes that were "saved" when we had the house up for sale. We didn't sale, we didn't move and neither did the boxes. They sure did this week. What a big cleaned space this makes in the basement. So happy!

Raven is mad at me for removing his "gym". He had fun in these boxes, sometimes in the middle of night, chasing imaginary mice or just playing hide and seek, IDK.

I also got rid of a lot of paperwork: old contracts, the purchase of my old cars (in 2000 and the other one in 2010). Old utility invoices back when the companies sent bills by mail. Junk! Only 4 hanging folders still hold some papers in that drawer. Now I'm thinking that I should put my patterns in the hanging folders. So ...

Out came the basket and the purging began.

It took longer than anticipated because of all the reminiscing when the boys were much shorter, but 3 quilt patterns, 14 little boy garment patterns and 1 sexy dress pattern were eliminated. That's half the basket. All that is left are patterns of garment for me that I'm not ready to give up and two quilt patterns. The basket will go in the trash as it is old and brittle now. Bye bye.

Today, Saturday, April 26th, is the Artisanat Craft and Art Exposition.
A couple of weeks ago, I took Elvis apart to remove the fluffy batting and got it back together. I quilted "Elvis" on one of the corners. I hope you can see that.

I was able to quilt the "flashes" of the camera from the audience as I had planned in my mind all along. I also quilted some lines on the record following the circle.

After adding more glitters, he was Expo ready.

I also brought the little baby quilt I finished this week. I'm not selling anything this year again, but I will be in and out of the premises as I love to see what the others do and brought along.

Back in November 2024, I took a course of Parchment Craft (a.k.a. Pergamano). Thérèse brought this beauty she did. She's been working with parchment for ages. Isn't her lady amazing when you think that all this is, is a sheet of thick parchment, a few embossing tools, and coloured pencils. Thérèse's talent is incredible. My picture doesn't do it justice at all.

Denise can crochet about anything she sees in Pinterest.

She can create plants that I can not kill! Awesome! She has little tags with the name of the plant because they are based on real ones. So cool!

Okay, I need to get back to the baking and bring my share to the bake sale. There will be more pictures next weekend. See you then.

Have an awesome week!

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

I'm good at starting projects; finishing them is another story, lol. At the beginning of the year, I named four quilts that I would like to finish, at least to the top stage. One is scratched off the list. Spinners is a top. Yay! (see last post)

Next in line is Hole in the Barn Door. But first, it had to be found.
Here it is and now I remember why it isn't finished already. The white border was too wavy and I removed it. All I need to do is sew it back on … after I found it. Haha.

What's in the bag?
Blue and green fabrics were in abundance in the bags I bought two weeks ago. (Was it really 2 weeks ago?) See this post

She had really packed those bags. So much so that at one point I just started to laugh out loud thinking of Mary Poppins' bag, lol.
Here are a few other prints I got.
A gorgeous black roses and a very soft baby blue. Both are fat quarters.

Another fat quarter in pink roses and half a meter of this wonderful yellow. I'm so in love with that one. And there were so many more little pieces, strings, squares, everything but the kitchen sink.

One SHIB jumped out of the bag onto my cutting table and demanded to be used NOW! I obeyed.
Two Blue Shoo were made right then and there. The little paw print on the light blue background is perfect for the Blue Shoo. This project is missing only 3 blocks now.

The pictures are taken on my computer chair because there's a light right above it. Every where else in the house is so dark and gloomy that the pictures weren't nice.

This is my living room floor. After putting these away, I will be done with gifted bags received in recent weeks. See here.
If you are wondering what was in the boxes, well, it was disappointment, that's what I found in there. Most of it was garment fabric, or old, thin fabric, not what I use in my quilts.

Even some stained (rotting?). A dollar seventy for 4.5 yards of fabric. Yep, it's that old (back when prices were hand-written) and so thin.

These are garment fabric that I'm keeping … for now. I love the houndstooth pattern. Would love a pencil skirt with that print. The blue one might be big enough for a blouse. We'll see.

These are quilt's worthy. All are a yard long except the red one at the back; it is closer to 4 yards long. It might end up as a backing.

Then, there was this!

It's black and white checkered, starched stiff, and cut at 13.5" lengthwise. I don't know why or what it was for but it's cotton. I'm thinking sashing so I'm keeping it.
A few things were saved for my friends like some fabric to cover outdoor furniture and stuff like that. Not my cup of tea. The boxes mostly went to the thrift store.

Back to our regular programming: RSC!

I found some yellow all cut and ready for sewing, hiding in the Flying Home box. They came together as my leader-ender this week.

Now, a little confession. When sewing for RSC, I gravitate towards tone on tone or prints that read mostly the colour of the month. I have so many (read SO MANY) prints that are rejected for the RSC blocks that it is causing a space problem. I tried to step outside of my comfort zone and I did this.

The geese are flying over a tomato field. Haha! Okay, so that's not so bad. Let's try another one.

Oh! This one isn't reading as red as the tomato one but … do I like it …, hum … still pondering . . .

Decluttering is still an on-going adventure. Sara did such a great job that it spurred me on.
I'll keep it for another post though as this post might end up including the kitchen sink.

Hope all is well with you and you are having fun with family, friends, and fabric.

Ready for Red and Spinners

My week didn't go as plan at all. First, we had another 6 inches of snow that was NOT planned.

DH got the stomach flu on Tuesday and passed it on to me on Friday. Gotta love a generous guy like that, haha. I wasn't as sick as he was but it's still not pleasant. I didn't go to work Friday as prevention for my coworkers. I still feel woozy today.

Regardless, I managed to sew this week and get this one together.

Yesssss! Spinners is a top! Whoohoo. I got all the stained pieces out and sewed it all together. See this post to read about the misadventure. Can you believe it was way back in 2022? It's about time it gets finish. You can see in the background that the snow didn't stay very long.

And I also did this:
Yep! I took Elvis apart. Oh no! Poor Elvis.
I don't like this poly-pretend-I'm-batting thing to the point that I HAD to remove it. Our annual Artisanat's exposition is coming at the end of the month and I would like to show it off. And I want it to look nice! It will get a lot of attention this weekend. 😉

On to the Red scraps, very little got done.

3 April Fool blocks

Because I have all those bags of scraps to go through and I found some more reds.

I love that one in the top right but not sure what to do with it. There was way more of the yellow star one. It has already been cut by the time I decided to take this picture.

My leader-ender is not progressing much.
Yep, one of them is different. I still "bloope" every now and again. Lol. My main leader-ender lately is Rail Fence.

These are for the 9-Patch quilt but they are very boring to photograph so I don't bother.

I'm not done going through the Walmart bag from last post, but I got all these whites/neutrals out of it. These neutrals were the reason I bought the bag.

I will be making more triangles for the Stained Glass Quilt.

This is ... I don't know what this is but there's a lot it. The big piece of the left is folded 4 times. It's a rough cotton, not quite as thick as canvas but close. The white flowers are painted on like some bad whites I get now and then. The needle has much trouble going through these kinds of prints and gets dull in no time. Disappointed. Out it went.

I believe that's it for now. I'll catch you again next weekend.
Take care everyone.

Putting Yellow Away

It's time to put Yellow away and get the April colour out.

How did Yellow fair during March? Let's see.

Crumbs that didn't get finished along with 9 Patch blocks. Some 9 Patch are from last month that didn't get their picture taken.

Some crumbs blocks are done but not trimmed. As I'm taking pictures, I realized that I didn't do any Stained Glass block this month! 😲

I did work more with dark yellow - gold - than I usually do, so in an effort to get the colour well balanced in my RSC2025 quilt, I pull out the brightest yellows.

These are blocks 5, 6, and 7. Number 6 looks very orange-y but it's more golden in person. Three more blocks are cut and waiting by the sewing machine. More Yellow will be posted next week.

A new month also means a meeting with the girls from the Artisanat group. I was greeted with scrap bags. I'm so spoiled.

The pink piece is pretty big and it's flannelette with black cats. It was on the "Take Away" table. I also grab a light mint flannelette with leaves for Lucie. She was happy I did as most of the things on the table were gone by the time she got there.

Then I got these 3 bags. A lady was selling these big bags for $5 each. I grabbed two. At the end of the meeting, there were still a few left in her bin and she didn't want to bring them back home so, she was given them away. I did say I had enough already but she didn't believe me and tucked the one on the left under my arm. 😄 I love these ladies.

There's some beauties in there. But then again, there always is.

Was Angela inspired by this cat for the April's colour? Haha.

With all the time spent for the Table Scrap Challenge and the sorting of the scrap bags, I'm not sure I did so well in using up my yellow scraps. Let's compare the bags.
First of March picture:

Thirty-first of March picture:
Looks like the yellow with pattern put some weight on but the others are slimmer. Yay! The 2 fat quarters were given away. They were of poor quality.

On to the Red. This is what I found ... so far.

Let the digging begin!

I hope you have as much fun as I do. Enjoy your week.
