Jail Break

I want to finish the M&M quilt top. So I added a border of yellow and then,

I added the black border ...

and that's when everything went wrong. The party came to a halt! There were police cars everywhere, officers spilling out of them and closing the area with their yellow tape. "Nobody moves! Hands up!"

"You are under arrest for having too much fun!"

I'm like what???? This cannot be!! I have to do something to help them, I mean, yes they are party "nuts" but who doesn't love the M&M clan? They can't be just thrown into jail!!



"Think, Chantal, think. You have to do something." I called Rebel on my eye-Phone.

"Rebel, I need your help. Come quick!" And then, she was by my side and came up with a plan. "We have to break the yellow tape to set them free", she said.

"Here's how we'll do it. It won't be easy but we can do this."


So I started making some Pinwheels. (Can't afford a real helicopter!)

and I added them to the border ...

nonchalantly, like they belong there.  Slowly I got closer to the M&M gang.



When no one was looking, I slipped them their getaway disguises. They have to dress up at the very last minute to avoid suspicion.

(I did the best I could with the little bit of time I had to find some costumes.)

Unfortunately, our plan came up short.

Not one to give up easily, Rebel tried again.


This time it worked. The tape broke and ...

 the M&M hastily split. 

It didn't take long for the cops to take us in pursuit.

Rebel had non-marked transportation waiting for them.

I mean, she had a means of transport for them.  (Com'on! There's no way they could all fit inside General Lee!)

The important thing is that they all got away ...

... to another bash party near you.

March's Scrap Attack

Hello! It's me. Remember me?

I know I haven't been very present in Blogland this month and I haven't answered every comment on my last post but life around here got very serious all of a sudden. I have a funeral tomorrow and then, it shall be sunnier. (Hopefully). One of hubby's old aunt passed away after a very brave battle. May she rest in peace.

I did managed to make all the Churn Dash blocks for Barb's swap project. Yay!

I also managed to de-bone a few shirts. I do not de-bone à la Bonnie. It takes me a whole lot more than just 7 minutes, lol.  I un-stitch some seams like the yokes and the "X" on the back of some men's shirts.

I remove breast pockets very carefully in order to keep the shirt free of holes. And I didn't have a lot of "stitching" or "ripping" time but 8 shirts came undone.

It is a good beginning ... but not a big one as it barely shows in the drawer.

Oh well, I'll try to keep at it for the month of March, (which should be calmer) and I also want to finish the January's Challenge but ... let's get on with March's own Challenge. I stirred the jar of papers and out popped ...

a string project has to be finished. Ouch!

This is where my strings multiply are stored.

I don't expect to make a dent in any of these drawers but I do have a little plan germinating in my head. Oh! oh! I can feel a sprout of creativity coming up. (Gosh! It must be Spring. Why else would I talk like this?!!!)

Yesterday RSC

I missed yesterday. I wanted to be at Angela's place for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge but ended up elsewhere.

I drove down to Cornwall to be with my friend Pink. We did some shopping ... of course! :^D

I needed some fabric for the swap Barb (Fun with Barb) is so generously hosting again this year. Thank you, Barb. :^)  This time we are to swap Churn Dash blocks. I'm in the traditional group so I had to get some Civil War era fabrics. I picked some nice Jo Morton one. Do you like?

Yumm! 

I added a few fat quarters in the colors of my 365 Challenge and the yardage is a "just because".

Talking of the 365 Challenge, the lady at the checkout is sewing along this year and we had a nice chat. Quilting people are so nice.

Here is where I'm at with that challenge.

French Patchwork - 21 pieces (This is my all time favorite) (in person it isn't crooked)

Letter O - 29 pieces

Wedding Ring - 25 pieces

Twin Sisters - a big 8 pieces :^D

The total of pieces in these 4 blocks is 63.

The next block, July 18, has 44 pieces in a 3-inch block. It might take me the entire day for that one, lol.

Let's get back to the beginning and see what I have done in purple for the RSC.

WHAT? Just that?  Here in Canada it's a long weekend, so I'll work with Purple. Yay!

Les paniers de Cécile

(Cécile's baskets)

I have joined Cécile and Béa from France in a cute little sew-along. Last year, we made Log Cabin Blocks. This year the only two rules to the SAL are baskets and 16 blocks.

Here are the last of my 16 baskets. You can see the first batch here .

How will I sew them together? Good question. I haven't found the answer yet. I have the entire month of February to decide.

Scrap Attack of January and ...

... what's February is asking of me.

So I started January with a Scrap Attack challenge:

 Finish the M&M Quilt.

This is what I started with. I did work on it but not as much as I should have. At work, it was very busy on Mondays, Tuesdays and most Wednesdays for the entire month and that left me with not much energy by the time I got home. But Thursdays were better and I was able to sew a bit.

Anywho! I love this quilt but I think it needs a je-ne-sais-quoi, like some character or something.

After much brain storming, I decided to go yellow.

And to give it some characters! Ha!

Every time I look at them, I smile. Pondering what to name this quilt. Celebration is too obvious. Anything with M&M was out of the question. But I wanted a fun name. So it will be named Smile. Just that. I want to add one more black border with confetti and I will call it done. It will go on the pile of tops that awaits their turn to be quilted.

So, I didn't finish my January challenge but I am happy with my progress. Now that I know what I want, it will be done before February is out, with more photos to come.

Back to the jar for another challenge.

And what did I pick this time?

Plaid shirt drawer. Yay! I am happy about that. It should be an easy one. I have a drawer full of plaid shirts that aren't cut and ready to use. That is the task I will do this month. I will take picture of the drawer in question another time. (I have to clear a path to the dresser first, bwahaha!)

While I was dithering with the M&M quilt, I did some free motion quilting on a scrap basket that I lovingly call Fiona's Basket. 

I tried to do pebbles for the first time. Not all pebbles are the same, thank goodness, because mine are very ... unique. Some even go right through another pebble. Imagine that!! I laughed so hard when I did these. It's hard to go in circle but it was fun. 

Diagonal lines at one end. I love that cloth line print. 

Some wavy lines and on the left, a plaid or checkered design. 

You can see the plaid better here. Remember when I got a box of scraps from Julie from JulieK Quilts, I said pay attention to the lighthouse, you will see it again soon. I knew right then that this little piece would be included in the blue basket. I love it so much. 

Here's my blue scrap basket which is ... not finished. (Sounds like those are the magic words for January at my place.) I ended up with a long basket. Again. Yet, on Fiona's blog the baskets look different. So, I went through her tutorial again and oops! I wasn't folding the piece the right way. Duh! 

I grabbed the orange basket and started taking it apart. 

I didn't cut the corners on this one, to box the basket so I was able to undo it all and refold it in the other direction. I will end up with a much taller basket. 

Stripped down to the beginning.  Because of the new direction, all of my favorite fabrics ended up under the basket. 

Small pleasure; the cardinal is exactly at the right place to be seen on the flipped corner. Yay!! 

I still need to add the liner and the buttons. (Another not finished January project. 😞)

As for the blue one, well ... since I cut the corners, there's nothing to do with that one but leave it as is. 

I regret cutting the corners. I looked at them for a long time and though "What the heck am I gonna do with you?" They gave me the answer. 

On to another blue story, I did a blue Hole in the Barn Door block.
