I'm in a hurry to get things done ...

....Oh I rush and rush until life's no fun ... (lyrics from Alabama song)

That's what I did yesterday and this morning. Now a whole bunch of things are done (cleaning, laundry, baking, sewing) only the chicken to be put in the oven for diner and I can (finally) sit, take a deep breath and enjoy life once again. Siiiiggghhhh!!

I did finish the month of May. Yay!  These blocks finish at 6 inches.

May 27th was Roman Cross - 33 pieces (pictures acting up again!)

Garden Maze - 41 pieces (another contender for RSC2017)

Eight Hands - 37 pieces

New Hour Glass - 44 pieces (had some issues with this one. I put some blue grapes in the middle and the brown grapes on the outside.) Needs a trim.

And May 31st : Rolling Pinwheel - 36 pieces for a total of 191.

Group photo! lol. Windy day!

The total for May is -   1 252
The total for the first five months of the year is -   3 542
Pheew! That's a lot of scraps!

Now this being said, I want to slow the pace right down to a crawl... it is windy today and I love windy days, so out the door I am going. Of course, I'll bring something to keep my hands busy.

I have a few butterflies prepped, waiting for the final touches. I also would like to put a few stitches in Shakespeare that has been so neglected.

I will be at Kathy's (Kathy's Quilts) for Slow Sunday Stitching
and at Cynthia's place (Quilting is more fun than Housework) for Oh Scraps!
I'll cross the ocean to be with Nicky's place (Mrs Sew and Sow) for Scraptastic Tuesday! She is preparing a quilt a long. Come and see.

Hope to see you there!

Until next time ...

Another Week Done, Another Week Late!

I finished another week of the 365 Challenge.  YAY!

Last time, I had done all the blocks up to May 19th. So on with May 20th which looks like this;

Weathervane - 37 pieces

May 21st - Arrow Crown - 81 pieces

May 22nd - Corn and Beans - 44 pieces

Union Star for May 23rd - 45 pieces (I can see this as a RSC block) :^D

May 24th - Night and Noon - 33 pieces

May 25th - Cut Glass Dish - 60 pieces (I love this one. Maybe for RSC too?)

May 26th wants to be funny and keeps flipping to its side, oh well! It is Strawberry Smoothie (which I now call Strawberry Wine lol). It has 29 pieces.

Making a total for the week of   329 pieces. Only 5 more block and the month of May will be done. Since we are already in August, that means I am nine weeks behind. I am one week later than I was before. Oh well. Life happens! Sometimes it happens like this;

We had to remove my favourite spruce to make the driveway larger.  We have a car and a "tank" (my van) plus a company van that DH drives to work. Last month, DS1 bought a car which gets to park in the garage and our car now sleeps outside. (Since it's an old thing and his car is newer, we don't mind.) On weekends, when all the vehicles are parked, it can get tricky for me to come out of the garage with the tank. So, we waited until all the nests in the tree were empty and doom day came during the long weekend of August. Darn!! (I have already planted another one in the backyard. :^D) The lower branches were more than six feet long. It did took a lot of space. The boys dragged all the branches into the backyard. There's pine cones everywhere. Sooooo many pine cones! This tree was an excellent bird feeder. Sigh! This week end, DH and the boys will deal with the stump. Next year, we might finally get the driveway paved. Maybe.

Anywho! I have to get back to un-stitching hexies and stitching the last of May.

Until nest next time ...

OMG What will I do?

I have been thinking about my August's goal since last week and all I have achieved is to make the list of choices longer! Duh!

So many of you mentioned that I should continue on my hexi quilt that I will go with that!

Before I can applique the borders, I need to deconstructed what I had previously HAND SEWN.

Since I was afraid the batting would peek thru where the hexies join, my stitches are very small and tight.

Because of its shape, some sides of the hexi are cut on the bias. As I am unstitching  these, I have to be careful not to pull too much on the fabric. These hexies don't have their papers underneath for support and they can easily warp.

It will be a slow process but one I need to do.  I have learned so much while making this first hexagon quilt and how to add a border is just another lesson. Learning something new is never a loss. Therefore, deconstructing the border on my quilt is a win! (Riiiight!! Keep saying that, Chantal!)
:^D

My friend Pink came over last Friday and we talked about quilts. (Ain't that odd or what? lol) I had this picture in my head of what my hexi quilt will look like in the end, and the borders were navy blue. I have stopped at a wrong place I think because both ends finish with a dark diamond. I don't like that against the navy blue. So Pink said "Use a different fabric! " This kid is too smart! Now, I am hunting my stash for something I like.

I am joining Heidi at Red Letter Quilts for OMG as my August's goal is way over my head, definitively boring, prep the sides of the quilt so they are ready for applique.

Until next time ...

July is done!

No, not the month. My month doesn't go by any faster than yours. It already goes by too fast as it is, I don't want time to step on the pedal! What I mean is my goal for July is done!

With Heidi's help, I am motivated to accomplish One Monthly Goal and I succeeded this month's goal.

My huge hexagon quilt is now completed. My goal was to add the two light diamonds missing and to attached the last row of green diamonds.

It is so big that the clothesline is not high enough anymore, even with the first row folded on the line.

When I started this quilt, I had no idea how to finish a hexagon quilt. As I attached the diamonds, I also attached a navy blue hexi to finish the sides evenly. I thought it would be nice.

At the top, I added a row of half diamonds and a strip of the same navy blue. Now, I hate it!  Thanks to so many wonderful hexagon bloggers, I now know how to finish my quilt beautifully. So I will remove all these half diamonds and navy blue hexies and applique the quilt to a border, like it should be.

Sorry but you are not done seeing this project on my blog. lol

While I deconstruct the sides, I will think about my August goal. Which one would be a good project to work on? So many choices!
I won some hexagon templates from Angie at A Quilting Reader's Garden for Christmas in July. (They came in a lovely Christmas Card. Too cute!)  I have to put the templates to good use, right? Oh! sooooo many choices!

And then, this happened!

I offered my Mother In Law to make a table runner for her RV. She immediately said "yes, please!" Her mother was a quilter and she did a few quilts of her own in her younger years. Now, she is more a knitter and a crochet fanatic than a quilter.

Anywho! I started with some tulip blocks. I believe it was very popular in the 50s (time when my MIL got married) in my area.

Then I did some colourful log cabin blocks with the Full Moon Log Cabin Lunatics at Julie's place.

And then, this happened:

I did say in my last post that you would need to wait til the next full moon to see what I was up to ...  but I couldn't wait that long. Hahaha!

Next week, it will pay a visit to my MIL to see how much bigger it needs to be, or maybe she will like it at this size! We'll see. It is 18 X 36 inches.

Now that this project is out of my head, I can concentrate again on the 365 Challenge blocks.

But first, I have to go see some blogs. Hope you will take a few minutes to check them out too.

I'll see Angela's at SoScrappy for RSC (might not be very much of a hot pink, but pink nonetheless)

I'll visit Cynthia at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap! on Sunday.

Until next time ...
