Slowly Getting Into Pink

Well, I'm finally playing with Pink. Not many days left before the end of the month but here it is. 

The yellow scraps weren't used as much as I had planned. Not much difference between the first picture (beginning of the month) and the second picture (end of the month). 

I separated the "gold" yellow from the rest, the bag on top on the right. On the left are the yellows with other colours that I wanted to turn into 9 patches. Oh well! At the front, unfinished crumb blocks. 

In my defence, Yellow does not have a scrap basket. The bigger scraps are also in these bags compared to other colours which have a basket to store the larger pieces. Anywho!

The 9-patch blocks that were cut and waiting by the sewing machine to be sewed are done. 

A friend gave me a little bag of scraps and those blues were too nice not to play with. Hehehe. 

Decluttering with Joy ( 100 Days 100 Things Decluttered )

I spent some time trying out summer outfits that no longer fit. So blouses and capri pants were sent to the second-hand store. Boy! That store must love me lately. 

I had kept a faux leather bag thinking my son could use it as he started college. It is the perfect size for a laptop. He prefers to keep his laptop in his backpack. Goodbye, blue bag sporting my "ex" job union logo. 

Please answer this: How come the scraps multiply when no one's looking, but the stitches on a quilt never change?  

I didn't work on my hand-quilting project for over a month and it didn't help itself either. The injustice is unbearable!! Lol.

So where am I at? 

This is the pink scrap I have, and no scrap basket either. There are only small pieces in there. Nothing was big enough for the Double Halo Star block, so I used a pink yardage. 

The star for the Double Halo block is completed. It's a start... 

Also started are two tulip blocks. A little yellow crumb block was used as the leader ender while sewing these parts. (While looking at this picture, a squirrel sneaked in and whispered something in my ear. OMG! Another quilt to make!)  

My Pink Rainbow UFO Challenge didn't even make it out of the drawer. These challenges aren't doing so well this year. Pictures of Dreaming in Dutch - Rainbow UFO Challenge for May as a reminder of what it looks like. 

The pink tulips were done in January 2021. 

All the blocks were made but I can't locate a picture will all of them. This is the best I have. Sorry. 

This past week, we had a fright when we saw that cloud coming towards us on Wednesday. 

I stared at it for a few seconds to make sure it wasn't spinning. We usually don't have twisters in Canada, but then again, the weather is so unpredictable nowadays. Luckily, there were minimal winds but lots of heavy rain. No damage. Just a good fright. 

I spotted these sweet faces behind my place on Friday morning. 

So, I think that's all I have. I'll try to be more productive but work is still zapping a lot of my energy. I like it though.

But I'm Not Done Playing With Yellow!

I feel cheated. I had so many more yellow scraps to sew. 😞

Early Saturday (this) morning, I did the second tulip. This is the first time the sewing machine has been turned on since I started working two weeks ago. What a pleasure it was to sew that tulip!

The top part of the tulips has the same print. What are the odds that I have the same print in the colour Angela called for this month! I ONLY have this print in those two colours, btw!! Angela? Are you spying on getting inspired by my stash? LOL. 

This block is a donation to the Quilts for Survivors. Michele's quilts are heading there too. Look how beautiful her two quilts are.   

I'm in love with this collection. 

This morning, I finished a 6.5 X 8.5" crumb block made with darker yellow scraps. 

Once all the yellow pieces are back in the bags, I'll take a picture to compare with the beginning of the month. I'm not expecting much of a difference between the pictures as not much sewing got done. 

But these were made before the job started. 

I have more cut pieces that I want to sew before putting yellow away. 

Decluttering with Joy ( 100 Days 100 Things Decluttered )

Does deleting emails count as decluttering? I've done a lot of that. The job-searching sites were deleted and the presentation letters, lots of those. Lots of paper from my "ex" job moved to the recycling bin (the union convention booklet and stuff like that).

In the past weeks, I did many loads of laundry. Working with young children and then for the welfare office aren't places where you dress to a tee. But working with lawyers, it's goodbye jeans; hello dresses! 

A T-shirt with the company's logo was sent to the secondhand store along with others that don't fit me any more and shoes too. A pair of pants size 4! Nah! I'll never fit in that again. Goodbye! 

The closet has now room for new stuff. Yay! 

We had rain and weak sun most of the time. Some of the same for the weekend. My backyard is looking glorious though.

Merry Yellow

At one point, I realized I didn't have a lot of yellow scraps. I never made a yellow scrap basket so all the scraps I have were in those three bags pictured at the beginning of the month. I had to create some more to get diversity.

The RSC block was finished along with a second crumb block. The misery of the construction of the Double Halo Star was caused by the centre block not being the right size. Everything was easy peasy after I made the correction. I am now ready for the next colour. Yay! 

The Ottawa Modern Quilt Guild, which I follow but am not a member of, posted the block of the month for April and ... well ... 

The block measures 8.5 X 16 inches. I tweaked the bottom half of the tulip to have the block at 16.5" in length. Adding a second tulip as OMQG did will make a 16.5" square block which is what the Quilts for Survivors asks for. I'll try to make 2 or 3 blocks for QFS.

April is turning out to be such a busy month. I've run all over the country leaving very little time for sewing. DS2 decided to go to college and he's starting May 6th. So, we got all the school supplies and financial paperwork, photo ID, etc. DS3 needed lots of paperwork too from police checks and Ministry of Transport documents to be accepted for truck school. He's starting in June. DH had two teeth extracted and he's miserable! 

Now, my turn!

Did an interview last week via TEAM. Did an in-person interview with the same ladies this Tuesday and started working on Thursday for the law firm. Yay me! It's an administration position so my back should be happy with that. My brain, at the end of the day, is a different story, lol. But I'm happy. So happy, for the boys and me. Thank you all for your support and good wishes. I truly appreciate it.

The conference room. Are the lighting fixtures reminding you of buttons or is it just me, missing sewing to the point of seeing notions everywhere? 

Today, Saturday is the Artisanat Exposition and Bake Sale. I need to get baking and get out there to help. Pictures in next week's post.

Little Bits of Yellow = Short Post

Isn't that something? Me doing a short post! Haha.

One son got sick, the other son got sick, the third son came home twice this week (not complaining, only stating) and I replied to many interesting job postings. That left little time and energy to play with yellow fabric but ...

 

... the second Stained Glass block was assembled (on the left).

Double Halo Star was a little brat. Nothing worked the way it was supposed to, and, the cherry on top, I chose a directional fabric which I sewed every which way but right. SIGH! Seventy-five per cent of the stitches had to be removed. No joke. I couldn't concentrate. Only this much was assembled this week along with a big crumb block.

You probably remember in the 80s and 90s, these wall borders were the big thing.  

The border was purchased in 1997 when we bought the house. I never put it up in the bathroom. (Yes, my bathroom is still charcoal and sand. I still love that combo.)  I was about to throw it out, but decided to have a look on Amazon and they still sell these.  So, off to the second-hand store it will go.

Knee Deep in Yellow

Sorting yellow by shades was my first task.

 

Some are not yellow by any definition but I don't know which colour I should add it to, so yellow it is. 

Burnt mustard? Copper? 

So, it got cut up into useable squares and stored away. Many others followed. And the bag got lighter.


Of course, most are sewn into something or another like this.

The 9patch in the middle is gold. I don't really like gold because, most of the time, it looks dirty like this one. I was about to cut it up when I spotted another gold one with little stars. I made one block and the rest got whacked. 

And of course, Stained Glass was done too. The second one will be brighter than this one. 

For those of you who wonder how the stained glass blocks go together, here's a group photo. 

Not much yet but enough to see the trellis effect. Some white triangles (still missing) will be added to each side of the block to form the square. I'm still debating if I want a one-piece triangle or a crumb triangle. Do I have enough white scraps to pull this through? 

I forgot to mention my personal UFO Rainbow Challenge. What is my UFO-RSC for yellow? 

Spinner was tagged with yellow. 

Do you know where Spinner is? Me either! 

The hunt is on. 

Meanwhile, I'll keep feeding my sewing machine with yellow scraps. 

Decluttering with Joy ( 100 Days 100 Things Decluttered )

This week I've put the heavy bedsheets away and got the lighter ones out. Some didn't make it back in the closet. 

I don't remember ever using these. Two flat sheets that were kept as quilt backings but I have enough of those so out they went. A fleece blanket nobody likes and some dishcloths bought a long long time ago. As they are too thin for my taste, I've only used one but, I've kept the others. Why? Out they go! 

(I should have counted how many items got decluttered.) Thanks, Joy for the support in doing this. I actually find this fun. 

Not exactly decluttering but reorganizing for sure. Two containers were emptied this week. (Will I ever be done?) 

These little bits are barely one inch and were trashed. Sorry, but the insanity has to stop somewhere. 

Of course, there were purple bits and pieces in there, making the slim bag a little heavier but still just one bag. Yay! 

On the quilting front, I'm almost at the second corner. Maybe I'll get to the corner block by Sunday when I join Kathy and her friends for a Slow Sunday Stitching. Wouldn't that be nice? 

At the top of the picture, the grey and blue block is done. The black and grey with oval/circle print is where I'm at. And then, the second corner. I really didn't leave a lot of batting on that side. I wonder why? Anywho! I need to finish this before the summer heat stalls me. 

EDITED: Yes, I made it. I am sewing the corner block today (Sunday). Not counting the corner block, there are ONLY 15 more blocks to go.
