Is Orange Done Yet? Nope!

I can continue to play with orange for another month and not get bored.

Unfortunately, it's the last week of the month. It's also the busiest week of the month at work which means my energy level was pretty flat by the time I got home. I didn't sew much but I still have a few things to show you.

These L&E blocks (Shallow Pond) get together every now and then. Look closely; Orange is there.

So far, they all have met my Super Seam Ripper. Maybe this weekend, I'll be able to sew a perfect one on the first try. Fingers crossed. :^D

Double Halo blocks are getting together now. I was hoping to have it done by now but it didn't go as planned. You will have to wait another week to see the flimsy top. Sorry.

What colour did I pick for the 9th block? Is it a burgundy red? A light grey? Oh! All black?  A very light violet? Another orange but more peachy?!

I am working with peach fabrics on a Stained Glass block. Two blocks of each colour was really not enough. The fun continues.

I found this little floral piece (which was bigger before I started cutting it) and I wanted to use it all up. It might appear pinkish on your monitor but the flowers are orange, trust me. I got just a wee bit left and it's in the box of Friend's Favourite Quilt. Oh, yes! I am still working on that one too. (Well, actually, I am only adding fabric cut to size in the box but it counts, right?)

The green fabric has some dashes of the same colour as the olive green fabric but it doesn't show well after sewing it. Very disappointed but it will be used anyway. And some peach fabric because they are part of my orange scraps.

Something exciting happened to me this week. I sold one of my quilts. It's my first sale! One of the lawyers bought my I Spy quilt. Oh! I'm so happy. I thought I would be sad to see it go but nope!

I'm sure the baby will have fun with this one while learning the English and French words of all the items in the prints. You can see more of this quilt here:

That's it for now. Hope you all have a lovely weekend, and a wonderful looonng weekend to my fellow Canadians and my friends in the States too.
Enjoy!

Where is MY Sanity?

The Orange month is almost over and I know I should be sewing like crazy to enjoy my favourite colour to the max but a very busy week at the office saw me too tired at night to enjoy my sewing room. I'll try to catch up during this weekend.

Anywho! This week, I have done this:

which is completely wrong. If you look at a Double Halo block there are no such units, so why the heck have I sewn these? I think Vacation is calling me.

Eventually, I managed to make it right and press it.

Ta-dah!!

And the usual 9-patch blocks.

But they aren't the only L&E anymore.

What can I say? Call me insane!
I mean what's a girl to do when she has the scrap for it.

The container of 2.5" squares and ...

these are holding the 1.5" squares and 1.5" strings. All I need to do is cut the 1.5 X 2" rectangles.

You bet I have greens and blues  ...

and the blues! Not to mention Aqua!

In my own defence, when the quilt tells you its name even before you pull out the fabrics it's because it is meant to be. Bonnie's latest leader-ender is called Shallow Pond in my sewing room. :^D

Now Quilting Babcia (from Amity Quilter) wrote these famous words on my post Whatcha Doing?

"Yep, been there, had the same conversation with myself many times. The only way to resolve the dilemma is to start two completely different projects while the first one simmers."

Well, that's exactly what I did, lol.

I found this booklet of 10 quilts for $2 in a thrift store and I love this quilt (bottom photo)
She used Christmas fabric but anything goes here. I just need to find a background fabric big enough for the entire quilt. Thanks, Quilting Babcia, for the wise words. 😁 (Love you)

Another thing that I did this week that makes me question my sanity is the fact that I signed up to play Volleyball with my co-workers once a week.  What made me say yes to that?? Volleyball!! The last time I played, the boys were still in primary school. Hahaha. I better get myself back into shape before the 17th of Sept. Oh, boy! Yes, I know it will be fun because I love that game; it's the day after that I dread, lol.

That's it for now.
Have a great week everyone.

A Week of Mondays!

Most horrible week of my life! It started with me and a co-worker having a little "tiff". It's all good now but the supervisor got involved "because I was mean!" (?) Then, I thought I had lost my job because of a MAJOR mistake I made. I was told I had given the wrong key to the wrong new house buyer! It took 2 days to discover that it wasn't my mistake as the envelope I gave had the name of that new house buyer on it. Whoever put the keys in that envelope is the one to be blamed. But for more than 24 hours, I thought I would be fired!! I was so miserable. I couldn't look my team in the eyes because I was ashamed and thought I'd broken their trust in me. The legal implications of such a "mistake" are astronomical.

Anywho, it is now over and I am SOOOOOOO relieved that I didn't do such a f*ck up! (Excuse my French!)
This being said and out of the way (and off my shoulders) (man, my shoulders hurt. They were so tight for the last 2 nights.), let's get sewing. Yes, please!

Orange, please!

Stained Glass in orange looks so ... juicy. 😂

I took all the SG blocks out to see where I'm at with this project.

The answer is: not that far.

What if I look at it from this angle?

Still short ... very short. And the addition of 2 orange blocks would not make much of a difference. Soooo ... I'll have to continue working on these for longer than one year. That's fine by me. 😊

Raven is trying really hard not to look at the lenses because he knows I will take his picture. He doesn't like to be photographed. I took the picture anyway. Ha!

DS3 has moved back home. (Yay!) This is what happens when your house is full of guys and you have to go to work all day.

Yes, this is my long table to cut long strips of fabric. You know, fabric? In his defence, he mentioned that I was not using it. 😒 This weekend, I will set up a workspace in his bedroom because this ... no.

Meanwhile ...

Mr. Big Fluff (Raven with his usual happy face) continues to ignore me. Sigh. His progress is almost imperceptible. Maybe my expectations are too high. I would like him to be well NOW! He walks more than he did before so I should be happy with that. (Count your blessing, girl.)

Did you really think I would leave you "9 patch-less"? haha. (Yes, I do make them up as I go, lol.) Only two got done this week. The bottom thing is a ... I really cut the point off on the left side of this block. Hmm! Maybe I'll fix it and maybe I won't.
Come back next week to see the completed Double Halo Star. 😎

Have a great weekend and a Monday-less week, hahaha.

Slicing the Oranges

It was a short week but what a week it was. Let's have a look.

First, Orange, of course.

This is what came out of the Orange scrap basket. Not much to play with as most of it is tiny little pieces. Lots of triangles. Ironing and measuring for a few hours at a time.

Transitioning.
I finished this beautiful Grey/Blue/Aqua crumb block. It is better looking in person. (not trimmed)

An Orange crumb block too. Of course!

The 9-patch blocks were also transitioning.

A little bud of a crumb photobomb the picture. You can see how small the scraps I have to play with in here.

More crumb blocks were made. (4.5 square and 8.5 X 6.5)

I have lots of funny-shaped scraps like this ...
and this ...

and this! I have a stack of almost an inch high of these triangles in three different orange prints. I cut them into usable size pieces. It took me a while but ...

The end result is (6) 2.5" squares; (59) 2" squares; (20) 1.5 X 2.5" rectangles and (45) 1.5" squares. A pretty good harvest if you ask me.

Sometimes, I get a tiny little piece of a print that I just can NOT throw out. Like this little kitten face. Sorry, forgot to take a picture before I started to sew but here's what I do.

The adjacent fabric is not squared with the kitten print. I leave a good quarter inch beyond the kitten print on purpose. I sew as close to the edge of the kitten print as I dare. See the stitches at the bottom of the photo.

Then, I iron the adjacent fabric towards the kitten print one and I sew it again but in a top-stitch way, on the inside of the kitten fabric. This way, the very slim kitten print seam is covered and will not fray.

The end result is a little kitten looking at me through a hole in my crumb block, lol.
If you look closely, you can see the top stitches on both sides. Sewn any other way, I believe the cute print would show only a kitty nose.

The Stained Glass blocks aren't Stained Glass Blocks yet ... but getting close to the finish line.

Raven's News.

Mr. Raven is sleeping ... a lot. Is it the pain, is it the med? His Doctor said not to exert himself and he is doing just that. I will try to upload a video here (my first time), so I hope it works.

I have never in my life, living with many different breeds of cats, seen a cat slobber! Dogs, yes! Cats? NO! But they can and they can do it ON PURPOSE, mind you! I'm flabbergasted. The first time Raven did it I called the vet. I thought my cat was dying.

His Doctor said that cats will work their jaws to add air into their saliva to remove more of the bad taste in their mouths! Well now, you know it too.

Early this morning, Raven had an appt with his Doctor who was pleased with his progress. He made me see how Raven could get up from a lying position much faster than before and his walk is more graceful, not as halting and painful as before. I was relieved. I didn't notice these little differences and I thought Raven hadn't improved at all. I thought the worst like him being in pain for the rest of his life. But there is hope still. It's slow progress but if the Vet is happy, I'm happy too. :^D

And I think this is all I have for this post.
Take care everyone and enjoy the music of a sewing machine.

Stained Glass and Scrap Bags

My primary job these past weeks was Raven. He is doing a little better but still can't jump on the sofa or climb the stairs. He hates his meds, therefore he hates me.

Sewing was a welcome change whenever I still had the energy to sew. What got done? Let's see.

A light blue and a green-ish aqua Stained Glass block were assembled. Sunny morning makes big shadows.

Group photo of the 4 Stained Glass from June and July.

Do you see the "eyes" in the last block? I can't "unsee" them and I have a mind to remove that piece of fabric. Would you?

More 9 Patch. Aren't you surprised? Lol. The Lily of the Valley floral print is all used up.

And now for the scrap bags! Did they lose some "weight"?

This picture was taken on June 1st. Note that the blue scrap and the aqua scrap are all together.

At the end of July, it might be hard to tell because there are more bags but believe me the group photo is much better.

The dark blue is the biggest one. No surprise there as I did so many quilts with dark blue fabrics and didn't work on it much in June. On top of it sits medium and bright blue. To its left is the blue/colour combo with the light blue at the front of it. In the foreground, we have the aqua bags. So much slimmer. From the left, the blue aqua, a bag of darker aqua that I gathered for a Storm at Sea quilt waiting patiently on my to-do list, and on the right greenish aqua.

Only the blue bags.

Only the aqua bags.

I am happy with the end result even though lots of those scraps just ended up elsewhere, like in the "per size" containers.
It will be much easier to use them now.

Angela called August
ORANGE

Well, everyone knows that I do NOT like orange! I adore orange. So let's see what I have to work with this month.

WHHHHAAAAAT! That's it?

Well, I do use orange a lot, even outside of the RSC, so I'm not too surprised.

Anywho! I'm sure I'll find lots more as Orange has a scrap basket. YAY.

Have fun sewing orange (or whatever colour) this week!
